Alliance of RI (AARI) applied for the TOM’S OF MAINE Community Project
Sponsorship program to plant one hundred (100) trees in the capital City of
Providence; especially in South Providence.
AARI is very proud and excited to announce
that its project named "Putting Down Roots-ENVIROMENT to plant 100
trees" has been chosen as one of TOM’S OF MAINE Community Project
Sponsorship program 50 project finalists.
But the work is far from
being over…
At the end of the voting

Worcester, Mass.— La Société Historique Franco-Américaine, one of the
oldest Franco-American organizations in New England, has recently announced its
new officers and board of directors, elected during an annual meeting held at
Assumption College, February 15, 2009.
Officers are Dr. Roger Lacerte of Lowell (president); Marcel Raymond of
Worcester (vice-president); Gertrude Lamoureux of Woonsocket (secretary); and
Donald Chaput of Manchester, NH (treasurer).
Board members are Dr. Armand Chartier, Dr. Richard Deslauriers, Dr. Ronald
Héroux, Dr. Georges-André Lussier, Albert Marceau, Louis-Charles Martel,
D.-Michel Michaud, Paul Papineau and Benoît Pelletier Shoja
La Société Historique Franco-Américaine, formed at the Parker House in
Boston on September 4, 1899, fosters the clear and deliberate study of United
States history with particular emphasis on French and French-Canadian
contributions to the development and evolution of the American people and its
culture. The Société has recently expanded its mandate and undertaken the
digitization of its archives collection. Membership in the Société is open to
all. Members receive an annual Bulletin and are invited to attend and
participate in biannual assemblies and special conferences. They are also
encouraged to submit historical texts for inclusion in the Société’s annual
Bulletin.

l'époque de Sir Wilfrid Laurier et de la reine Victoria. Victoriaville est
située dans la région des Bois-Francs, entre Sherbrooke et Trois-Rivières.
Depuis dix ans, nous organisons lors du week-end de la Fête du Travail, fin
août-début septembre, un ensemble d'activités axé sur cette période victorienne:
soirée traditionnelle appelée la Soirée des Tapeux d'pieds (vendredi), grand bal
victorien (samedi) précédé en après-midi de la Parade sur la rue Principale et
du concours de la Grande Menterie Victorienne et la Foire Victorienne
(dimanche). Et tout ça en costumes d'époque ! Pour en savoir plus et mieux, vous

c'est que j'ai l'idée de proposer à mon CA comme thème de 2010 l'histoire
des Franco-Américains de cette période. Qui n'a pas eu dans sa famille quelqu'un
qui a émigré au "States" pour y gagner sa vie ? Et j'espérerais en prime la
participation d'une délégation de Franco-Américains à notre fête. En quoi
consisterait cette participation ? Ce pourrait être en y délégant une troupe de
danse traditionnelle ou de musique traditionnelle pour le vendredi soir; de
même, les gens participeraient à la Parade sur la rue Principale, au Grand Bal
Victorien du samedi; et le dimanche sur la rue Laurier, une troupe pourrait y
faire une intervention théâtrale /*en français*/ d'environ 15 minutes,
intervention qui raconte une histoire de cette époque. À chaque année, nous
proposons aux promeneurs sur la rue Laurier, six courtes pièces de théâtre
originales sur le thème retenu sous la supervision d'un metteur en scène
professionnel. La pièce créée par la troupe franco-américaine serait donc une
septième pièce. Toutes les pièces seraient créées autour du thème retenu: les
Franco-Américains. Est-ce une idée intéressante ? Savez-vous à qui je
devrais proposer une telle invitation ? Si je m'y prends tôt, c'est que
j'aimerais beaucoup compter sur la participation de gens provenant de chez vous,
des Franco-Américains qui viendraient fêter avec nous pendant un week-end la
fierté et le plaisir de partager une langue commune. De plus, en s'y prenant
tôt, il est plus facile d'organiser un tel déplacement. Pour ma part, je vais
essayer de convaincre le CA des Fêtes Victoriennes de partager mon enthousiasme

advocacy letter has been drafted and
will be sent via physical mail soon to all Rhode
Island school superintendents by the end of January. A copy of
the letter is here attached. It will also be available on the AATFRI website in
the «Resources» section. For private school French teachers : A
similar letter is available to be addressed to your headmaster, director, etc.
If you would like the AATFRI to send such an advocacy letter to the head of your
school, please so advise by replying to this email with the name, title, and
address of this person. I would like to

toutes! Hope you are all well at the start of this new year! I'm
writing with some interesting news that I think will be of interest to all of
you: I was recently invited to a 'fin de semaine de reflexion' in Quebec
concerning a project that is being spearheaded by the Centre des Francophones
des Amériques with the goal of creating a durable and pertinent network of young
francophones and francophiles (18 - 35) of the Americas. There will be a
conference this summer in Quebec during the month of June, and all francophones
and philes are invited to apply. The committe will choose two people from each
region (one of these regions being New England) based on motivation,
recommendation, etc. The center's website will have the details up on their page
soon... The participant pays only 300.00 ; the rest of the costs will be picked
up by the center. I am writing to you to let you know of this project
existence. If you (Brooke) or any of your students fit the profile, let them
know about it. It would be a great learning and social experience. Let me
know if you have any questions and I'll be glad to answer them if I

Nous vous écrivons au nom du Comité québécois
pour la reconnaissance des droits des travailleurs haïtiens en République
dominicaine (CQRDTHRD) pour vous demander votre aide dans la réalisation
d’un projet de tournée. Vos coordonnées nous ont été communiquées par le biais
de Marc Jacques, l’attaché aux affaires académiques, économiques et culturelles
du consulat canadien à Boston qui nous a recommandé de vous
contacter.
Nous avons entrepris l’année dernière, la tournée
d’Hélène Koscielniak, auteure du roman Marraine. Cette tournée contribue
à exposer au grand public les conditions de vie dans un batey de
République dominicaine, une agglomération pour travailleurs
agricoles haïtiens, ces braceros forcés d’y vivre encore aujourd’hui
comme les esclaves d’antan. En effet, après le succès qu’a obtenu Hélène avec
son roman, et sa position de finaliste au prix des lecteurs de
Radio-Canada 2008, ainsi qu’au Prix de littérature éclairée du
Nord, elle poursuit sa foulée en entreprenant une tournée nord-américaine
ciblant des villes occupées par la diaspora haïtienne (Miami, New York, Boston,
Washington et Atlanta). De plus, nous aurons la joie de pouvoir projeter le
documentaire « The Sugar Babies » d’Amy Serrano sur le travail des enfants de
descendance haïtienne dans les champs de canne à sucre. De plus, il est fort
probable que Mme. Serrano soit elle-même présente lors de cette
tournée.
Après une interruption de la tournée suite à Miami,
Washington, l'Outaouais, l’auteure nous a maintenant donné de nouvelles
disponibilités afin de relancer l’évènement. Le 31 mai, une activité est déjà
prévue à Boston. Nous sommes donc à la recherche de partenaires qui pourraient
éventuellement organiser une deuxième activité à caractère plus académique et
culturelle, autour de cette date. C'est pourquoi nous aimerions vous demander
votre appui pour l’organisation de cet évènement.
En espérant recevoir de vos nouvelles sous peu, veuillez agréer
