Here you will find what we do, when we do it and how you can join us in making Leeds a city with a clean, green, future!

We are currently engaged in a number of campaigns both local and national. We are always on the look out for new members who can support us in any way they can, be it writing letters to their MP, helping us to hold regular stalls, making a financial commitment, or getting engaged with campaigning as an active group member. We are keen to establish links with Youth Organizations, Schools, Churches, Unions and other  local stake holders that want to be counted where it really matters - our environment.

Visually stunning and vastly entertaining, Earth Days looks back to the dawn and development of the modern environmental movement from its post-war rustlings in the 1950s to the first wildly successful 1970 Earth Day celebration and the subsequent firestorm of political action. Earth Days is both a poetic meditation on humanity's complex relationship with nature and an engaging history of the revolutionary achievements -and missed opportunities- of groundbreaking eco-activism

  • NEW CAMPAIGN LAUNCHED- GET SERIOUS, LEEDS!  We need Leeds city council to take it's Climate Change responsibilities seriously, the next  six  months leading upto the Climate Talks in Copenhagen are crucial.Press
  • Leeds First Wind Turbine On a gateway site into the City this sizeable turbine will but Leeds on the renewables map and represents a crucial first step towards a sustainable city, well done Yorkshire Water and Leeds Council Press.
  • Hook Moor Wind Farm. Rejected! Despite 1500 letters in support, this development was turned down on an objection made by the MOD in relation to the  RAF training airfield at Church Fenton. It seems a pity that the Government cannot fund the necessary technologies to allow airports and turbines to coexist. It seems very unlikely that  Leeds will reach it's targets of generating 10MW of renewable energy by 2010.
  • Leeds Bradford Airport Expansion - Expansion Approved. This Decision by the Council shows their lack of understanding of the issues that will be facing the region over the coming years. It is far from cartain that the airport will be a finnancial success. The joint campaign fought by NLBAE has set the agenda for COPENHAGEN. Join the campaign.
  • No Coal  Hole -Leeds Planning Committee have rejected the proposed open cast coal mine at Ledston. Banks Developments may seek to appeal the decision or the proposal could be forced through by central Government. For the present- Hurrah!

Campaigns:
  • Get Serious - On Climate Change-The next dozen years are crucial if we are to avoid the worst impacts of climate change. The latest science indicates that we must cut out emissions by at least 40% by 2020 to avoid dangerous climate change. With every year we delay the cuts required will have to be more severe and harder to implement.
  • Greening the City - An ongoing dialogue with the Leeds City Council to encourage sustainable development in the City Centre. The Centre of Leeds should show case adaptation for climate change. Retail environments need to be sustainable.

 How to Help:
