· The Scott Foresman story of the week was Bunny Cakes. The story was about two bunnies that set out to make a cake for their Grandma. Max and Ruby have very different ideas about how the cake should look. Ask your child about this funny story!
· The skill emphasized in this story was cause and effect and the genre animal fantasy.
· The high frequency words this week were “I and am”.
· The letter of the week was Aa. We were working on the short Aa sound. We were also working on writing both upper and lower case Aa. Many fun ways that we practiced the letter are: using the white boards making clay Aa, making Aa with your body and fingers, skywriting Aa, and practicing Aa on paper. We refer to the writing guidelines as the skyline, plane line, and the grass line. These terms are taken from the Wilson Program. We also sung the song of Aa, and I have included the words for you.
· After Thanksgiving vacation we will be working in skills groups. I will work with small groups every day and will focus on reading readiness skills.
· In Math this week we worked on adding of numbers, counting by ones, fives, tens, and twos, and also calendar skills (how many days in a week), and what makes a dozen. We also created a Thanksgiving dinner out of paper which emphasized shapes and fine motor skills.
· In Science we are learning about corn and will be making johnnycakes.
· In Social Studies we are learning about Native Americans and the first Thanksgiving.
· Our class Thanksgiving feast will be on Monday, November 24th at 10:45. We will be learning about Native American dwellings, stories, and music.
· I will send out the December volunteer schedule after Thanksgiving.
· If you would like to donate a nonperishable item, we will be donating a class made gift box to the Soup Kitchen for Thanksgiving. We will make the gift box on Tuesday, November 25th and I will deliver the box there after school.
· Have a great week! Mrs. Kluger
