Professional Summary

 

Dynamic, broadly-trained professional who blends policy and coordination experience with an extensive background in geospatial information science and remote sensing, and its applications for agriculture, land use, and resource management. Lea coordinates and works with a diversity of people as part of her research in applied participatory mapping; this research, conducted through the UW College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, engages rural and tribal communities in the development and use of geospatial technologies and models to support local decision-making, such as determining site suitability for bioenergy production facilities. In 2006, Lea served as a National Science Foundation NSEC Fellow in the UW Interdisciplinary Nanotechnology and Society Scholars Program, for which she conducted socio-legal research on state premises registration and animal identification programs. She also has experience in technical and policy issues related to spatial data infrastructures. As a staff member of the Wisconsin State Cartographer’s Office, Lea currently participates on a leadership team to create the statewide Wisconsin Geographic Information Coordination Council. Prior to this, Lea served as member of the Urban and Regional Information Systems Association (URISA) Policy Committee, as the co-chair of the Wisconsin Land Information Association (WLIA) Legislative Committee, and as a member of the WLIA Emergency Management Task Force, Information Policy Task Force, and Technical and Information Policy Committee. She also worked as a research analyst for GeoAnalytics, Inc on a statewide land records modernization intiative in Nebraska.

 

Experience designing, coordinating, and managing projects and scientific studies. Strong oral and written communication skills, including publication and presentation of results to scientific and general audiences, and to local, state, and national audiences; five years experience teaching and training individuals of diverse backgrounds about technical and scientific principles; multicultural and international experience.
