Student Essay Contest

Awards will be given to winners of an essay contest entitled My Story: A Person Who Inspired Me. Students are invited to submit their stories about a person who inspired their learning.  
 

Who can submit essays?

  • Kindergarten – 6th grade: Entries should be 100-150 words (may include illustrations)
  • 7th – 9th grade: Entries should be no more than 250 words
  • 10th -12th grade: Entries should be no more than 300 words

Entrants may be from public, private, parochial or alternative schools or home-schooled.

Prizes for 1st and 2nd Place and Honorable Mention will be awarded in each of the groups.
 

The essay

Students are invited to submit their stories about a person who inspired their learning. Tell the story about the person who most motivated you!

  • Provide that person's name and where you learned with him or her.

  • Describe how he or she inspired your learning.

  • Talk about the difference that was made in your life.

Essay Contest Rule Checklist

__ I am submitting no more than 1 entry

__ My submission is my original work.

__ My submission is no longer than described in the criteria.

__ My submission is typed (double space) or neatly printed on one side only of 8 ½ x 11 inch paper.

__ If sending by e-mail – my submission is sent as MS Word or PDF attachments only to kjoyal@riversrunliving.com subject: essay contest.

__ My submission has my name, address, telephone number, school and grade typed or neatly printed on the back side of each page. If submitting by e-mail, this information must be in the body of the e-mail and not on the attachment.

__ No identifying marks are on the front side of any page. (This is important for the judging process)

__ My submission will arrive no later than Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

__ I understand if I do not follow the essay contest rules, my submission may be disqualified at discretion of the judges.

 

A panel of three judges will assess all submissions on originality, creativity, content and neatness. Spelling and grammar will be considered.

  • Winners will be notified on Monday, April 30th , 2009
  • Award ceremony will be held on during our opening celebration on Sunday, May 3, 2009, beginning at 1:00 pm
