Description:

From Delivering Flowers to Assisting at Community Events, Volunteering is a Gift of the Heart. The mission of the Volunteer Services department at Wesley Medical Center is to love God, serve others and excel in healthcare. Our volunteers are the crucial link that unites the Wesley hospital staff with patients’ families. It’s their compassionate smiles, comforting visits and extra words of support that make each patient’s stay at Wesley a special one (wesley-medicalcenter.com)

Volunteer Opportunities:

 Wesley Volunteer Service Areas:

  • Registration Areas
  • Hospitality/Activity Carts
  • Pharmacy
  • Rehabilitation Services
  • Pediatrics
  • Waiting Rooms
  • Transitional Care Unit
  • Women’s Services
  • Cath Lab

And many more! Please let us know on your application if there is a particular area that is of interest to you.(wesley-medicalcenter.com) There are volunteer positions everywhere, hospitality is one area that was pointed out as a big need, just serving patients and their families. They are starting to put volunteers in the ER waiting room to be there for the families as well. Currently there are 85 volunteers serving, and there is a place for everyone.

Requirements:

If you are over the age of 18 and are willing to donate four hours of your time per week, across a six-month period, we would love to have you apply to be on our team. College students may apply to volunteer at Wesley as part of course credit; however, students are strongly encouraged to evaluate their schedules carefully to be sure they can make the full four-hours-per-week commitment. (wesley-medicalcenter.com) After the application process, you will be set up with an appointment with the volunteer coordinator, you will also need 2 references, your social security card, and drivers license. You will undergo a physical and complete orientation, which is offered at scheduled times. The volunteer coordinator tries to set you up with an area of interest to you, or in the case of someone interested in the medical field, an area you think interests you in that way. Hours are 8-5, Monday-Friday.

Special Notes:

The volunteer coordinator pointed out that while this is a more demanding opportunity, it is very rewarding and for students who are consistent and keep their commitment (of at least 4 hours per week for six months) she is more than willing to write references, recommendations, etc.
