Description:

The Salvation Army provides multiple services in the community of Hattiesburg. The Boys and Girls Club sponsors after-school programs during the school year as well as summer programs. During the Holiday Season they need a lot of help with initiatives such as Angel Tree, Kettle Ringers, the Toy Warehouse, etc. Additionally, they offer a school for performing arts, which meets on Monday nights from 5:00-8:00 that helps students with academic work then offers activities in 5 art disciplines. They also run a food pantry and the Salvation Army Thrift Store (off 49) which also use volunteers. Also, in case of a disaster, the Salvation Army is always in need of volunteers to serve victims.

Volunteer Opportunities:

Students may volunteer in any of the above mentioned programs/activities, helping with the after-school program, mentoring kids, helping put food boxes together, sorting through toys for Christmas, helping with office work, working at the Thrift store sorting through donations, or helping with the performing arts school.

There is an application and a background check. For the background check, the STUDENT pays $25. Must commit to at least 2-3 hours per month on a consistent basis.

Special Notes:

There is ALWAYS something to do, just call for information and to set it up. they would be especially appreciative of students willing to stay to help during the holiday season, especially the week of December 11th.
