Description:

ShareCare is a Time Bank project offered by the University of Southern Mississippi's Institute for Disability Studies. A Time Bank "is a community of people who support each other. When you spend an hour to do something for an individual or group, you earn a Time Dollar to buy an hour of a neighbor's time or engage in a group activity offered by a neighbor. With Time Banking, you will be working with a group of individuals who are joined together for the common good." (IDS informational brochure) Examples of types of services that may be exchanged include: Minor home repair, pet care, transportation, errands, cooking, computer assistance, garden or yard work, housekeeping, budgeting or bill paying, car repair/maintenance, clerical, jewelry making, arts and crafts, reading, haircuts, planning a party, childcare, letter writing, companionship, sewing, tutoring or in groups it can include potluck dinners, etc.


Volunteer Opportunities:

Students may volunteer and take part in working with the elderly and those with disabilities as well as the above-mentioned manual labor type work or potlucks, etc.


Requirements:

There is an application and volunteers must sign a confidentiality agreement.
