Description:

In 1993, Emeritus began offering an alternative to seniors who could no longer live at home, yet did not require full-time skilled nursing home care.  Our primary goal is to provide the support residents need to live full and satisfying lives, while helping them maintain their independence and dignity.

Each of our communities operates like a family-owned business. This gives our staff the flexibility to customize independent living programs and assisted living services to reflect residents’ needs and interests. (emeritus.com,edited) At Pine Meadow, the Alzheimer's Care Program is designed to support residents with Alzheimer's disease and related dementia. (Pine Meadow).

Volunteer Opportunities:

Students can volunteer at Pine Meadow in various ways, acting as receptionists, doing one-on-one activities with the residents, or helping with group activities (like birthday parties, movie nights, etc.). The most impacting thing students can be a part of here is simply having contact with the residents (talking to them, holding their hand), some of whom don't get much of that anymore for a variety of reasons.

Requirements: There is an application, background check, and TB test.

Special Notes:

Anyone interested in volunteering at Pine Meadows should be aware that the residents there are in varying stages of Alzheimer's or dementia - from basically fully functional and aware, to the more advanced stages. They are very happy to see young people and the staff there are very willing to work with volunteers, introducing them to the structure of Pine Meadow, and excited to have them there.
