Description:

Hospice is a special way of caring for people approaching the end of life. This type of care is based upon the hospice philosophy, which addresses the unique needs of people in the final phase of life.

The Mission of Deaconess Hospice, and all services and subsidiaries of Critical Homecare Solutions, is to provide exceptional, compassionate health care, always promoting optimal quality of life for our patients in the comfort and safety of their homes.  We accomplish this with caring and dedicated employees who consistently strive for excellence.  We are also dedicated to an ethical and fiscally responsible approach to each and every element of care and service we deliver.(dhchospicems.com)

Volunteer Opportunities:

Students may volunteer in a variety of ways, doing clerical work, assisting with certain types of patient care (working with a professional who will work with those interested - so this is ideal for those interested in social work or medicine as a career path as they are able to obtain good experience).

Requirements:

There is an application as well as an orientation, which involves mostly reading. Background checks are required ONLY for those who want to volunteer in patient care, not for those who want to do clerical work.

Special Note: It is suggested not to procrastinate on your hours (which is true of all sites), because you may find that there isn't anything to do if you put it off for all at once.
