Description:

The American Cancer Society is the nationwide community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer, through research, education, advocacy, and service.

We provide services to the public to promote cancer education, awareness, and increase advocacy efforts to encourage changes in public policy and healthcare.  For cancer patients and their families, we provide the following services:

* Support groups     * Look Good, Feel Better Sessions    * I Can Cope Classes   * Financial Assistance

* Wig, Bra, and Prosthesis Closet    * Reach to Recovery Visits   * Transportation Grants     * Camp Rainbow

In order to support these programs and raise money for cancer research, our local office holds fundraisers throughout the year.  Our main fundraising effort is through Relay For Life.

Opportunities:

  • Assist in the office:

We need volunteers to help in our office to prepare materials, perform general office duties, and sometimes help man the office. We are open Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

  • Volunteer with a support group:

All of our support groups are led by volunteers.  If there is a new group that wants to start and there is someone to lead it, we can help set it up.

  • Relay For Life:

This is our most volunteer intensive event.  Volunteers are needed for a wide variety of positions, including:

      • Relay Planning Committee Member
      • Team Captain
      • Team Recruiter
      • Day of Event Volunteer
