What I have learned over the years as a guidance counselor is that almost always, the reason for poor grades in school has nothing to do with intelligence. It has everything to do with how smart a STUDIER a student is. Middle schoolers are experiencing more homework than ever before. And it is coming from different teachers in many different subjects. How does one keep it all straight? Hopefully, one thing that LDMS students are doing is using a planner every single day. Students who use their planners all the time are no smarter or less smart than the person who doesn’t….but the student who uses his planner is a smarter studier, is more organized and will often end up with better grades than the not-so-smart studier. Add to good organization knowing one's learning style, how to read with a purpose and test-taking strategies, and you have a recipe for academic success.
