SITE TRANSFER
July 6, 2009 - Into the thirteenth year of the Project, we are very happy about how smooth the transferal from the original MSN site to the  Google site has been going. This is all attributable to The Friends of Lafayette Cemetery. You are all fantastic!-Sean M. Perry, Research Director, LCRP, NOLA

July 13, 2009 - Keep in mind: we ARE this Project.....without the support of you all (all ya'll !?!), it could never have become this instrumental in the protection of a very import historical site. And also remember that the second you walk into this cemetery, that you are part of the history of the cemetery-Sean

THE FRIENDS OF LAFAYETTE CEMETERY
July 14, 2009 - Some of the Friends (or Fiends, as I have upon occasion referred to them) who have been helping with the photo archives (6000+ flippin' photos!!!) said they found so many pics of me that they want to do a lampoon album of my life. I know they have some of my baby pics, and actually wish we had some of those special shots, like when i was stuck hanging upside down from a (southern) magnolia I was using while I was working on top of a tomb. When I slipped I caught the branch in the crux of my knees and everything in all of my pockets including my cellphone went skittering on the ground. I had to wait about 30 mins. until someone showed up and I asked them to call the fire dept. They asked me the ph.#, I nonchalantly replied that I thought "911" would probably suffice (humor to the end). THAT would have been a true Kodak moment.

PROBLEMS WITH COMMERCIAL TOURS
July 19, 2009 - We still can't seem to shake the problem we have with a few commercial tour guides regarding the fact that THEY ARE NOT ALLOWED TO CONDUCT COMMERCIAL TOURS WITHIN LAFAYETTE CEMETERY AFTER POSTED CLOSING TIMES. We leave the gates open longer because we have cemetery work going on and so that families will have more time to visit their tombs. We were always lenient before, but it is getting out of hand again. This one particular haunted woman has been told repeatedly that she is NOT allowed in the cemetery after 2:30 on weekdays, and noon on Saturday. We don't mind visitors coming, but COMMERCIAL GUIDES must adhere to the rules they signed onto to get their guide licenses. Please don't make us have to bring the Big People in (again). You will lose. Right when we were closing the gates yesterday, (a lady with a tomb witnessed it), a commercial tour group was still inside. We yell "Locking Up!" for 10 mins. before we leave. Too hot for this crap anymore...

WE LOVE LUTHERAN KIDS!!!
I was very impressed as to how well the kids from the Lutheran Conference conducted themselves. We are waiting for the photos so we can post them (Connie!!!!)

THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR SUPPORTING THE PROJECT
Aug. 13, 2009- We are thoroughly enjoying assisting families due to the pre and post-Katrina research that we have published here. The Pro Bono project will provide assistance to any families requiring information as to the best and least expensive ways to upkeep your tomb. This cemetery has shown, due to the efforts of the Project, one of the highest restoration rates in the City of New Orleans and along the Gulf Coast. If you need asssitance of any kind reguarding your tomb, documentation or services please contact us at :

REPORTS OF PLAGERISM AND COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT BY "non-profit" ORGANIZATIONS

Aug. 13, 2009- One time they retorted that they got the materials from the Internet. Of course they did. Save Our Cemeteries. INC have been upsetting alot of people, especially families who own tombs and plots in the cemetery. They employ, as a "non profit", professional tour hustlers for their fundraising, which is in direct violation of federal anti-trust regulations,
try to tell families caring for their own tombs that they have to deal with them if they wish to restore or maintain their own tombs,
This must stop immediately.

Aug. 29, 2009- This is a day of remembrance for New Orleans. As much as you think that our town has recovered from the storms, be prepared for a rude awakening. We totally adore the kids who came down to help for Habitat, etc. There are alot of tears we have shared. What we have problems with are people who come to our town trying to capitolize on it. If you wish to rent a building and offer products, we love you. If you want to come from outside Oreleans Parish , ( such as Metairie or the West Bank) and try to displace local residents just to make a buck, you are doomed. The "executive director" of Save our Cemeteries, INC., has barely been in town for 2 years. Maybe she thought that (based upon disinformation provided to her by individuals such as: Gayle Pierson, a commercial tour guide who moved from Minnisota and figured she could benefit herself and prove that she was something. We have yet to see the something. We survived Katrina and Rita because we WORKED!!! Do not hurt the working people (make us upset by you).

9/11- We want everyone to remember that the same tears we shed during Katrina are the same we had when the WTC attack took place. Waking up to Tom Brokaw right before the second plane shook the whole nation up. I was on Magazine and went over to the cemetery and realized that it was time for the Home Guard to be on duty. We are very proud of our work. We were able to assure everyone that things were under control. Still, some tears and prayers.

About 4 months later, I was able to slip out of town up to Montclair (Jersey) and be able to visit Kim, who (thank God) had gotten so drunk that she went home and didn't go to work for a few days. She brought me to Zero and none of us said a word for at least 2 hours. We walked, sodden face, to the Villiage and sat at the first bar we found. We ordered pints of Guinesses, then stared at them, chain-smoking.

Please always remember us First Responders. Whether Fire, Police, Home Guard, never forget........WE STAYED!!!!.......God Bless.....Sean

Nov. 16, 2009- People are still wondering where the original fascade plaques which had been on the fronts of the three tombs which Save Our Cemeteries, INC have been pretending to work on for the past two years. No one has ever provided paperwork for them, but we have the photos from 1997 showing they were there, as well as more recent photos showing when they dissappeared. The only thing we know is a story from Save Our Cemeteries, INC. saying that they were stolen by someone they hired in their "work". SOC, INC has a reputation for trying to hustle tombs. This would not be the first time under any means that SOC, INC has involved themselves in shady deals. WE REINTERATE: They are just a commercial company illegally using a 501.c.3 to launder money. We will continue to monitor and inquire.
