We are celebrating our 30th anniversary in 2009.
Who Are We?
As
part of Lanark Health & Community Services, Lanark Community
Programs is an agency whose purpose is to provide support services to
children and families, especially those made more vulnerable by
developmental, physical or economic limitations. What is Elearning?Elearning involves use of the web and the computer to learn. Learn what? About ANYTHING. If it's on the web, it can be found, and learned. If it's not on the web, it can be put on the web. Although live learning (see our Announcements about live training that is also available through LCP) is best for some things, people miss some of what is taught. That may be because they lose attention. Or they're not ready to learn about something (yet). Or they get "filled" with information and can't take in more after a time. Or somebody distracts them. There are a lot of reasons why they miss some of the learning in day-long workshops. When parents hear that their child has a particular disorder or impairment, they may at first be in shock, and their learning and attention to things may be temporarily blocked. Then they may go searching for anything they can find to help them understand their child's needs. Often they will turn to the internet and do research online. CAUTION should be used in this, because as good as some of the information is on the web, OTHER INFORMATION MAY BE WRONG, OR EVEN HARMFUL. LCP is trying to harness the power and good in the internet, and to assist parents to find information that is useful, solid, and ultimately, will help their children. Some of the ways the internet can be helfpul: - Reading about things
- Watching video clips - entertaining, inspiring and educational
- Seeing slideshows of informative teachings
- Catching the latest news and breakthroughs in research
- Hearing opinions as they are written (blogs)
- Collaborating with others who have similar interests or problems to deal with
- Listening to, or reading about, debates between experts and leaders
- Seeing inspiring pictures, reading inspiring stories, or just staying in touch with friends, relatives, and people who share their interests or challenges
- Engaging in discussions with others, getting advice and help
- Researching library collections, books and articles on almost any topic
- Ordering books, magazines, e-newsletters, and writings on almost any topic
- ....and much more!
