Weekly Devotional

Building off of last week’s devotional, I want to continue to discuss what it looks like to live like Christ as a modern college student. As I said last week, I have had some difficulty coming to terms with being in some sense “stuck” in college while there are causes all over the world I’d love to be actively working for. I have come to the realization that I have been blessed with the opportunity to go to college, and that college is exactly where I am meant to be at this point in my life.

A lot of people are afraid of the word content because they believe it implies no motivation for advancement and growth, I however disagree. I think it is valuable to find contentment in life. I know that I could walk away from college, travel to a third world country, and spend a decade of my life volunteering in a hospital or a soup kitchen feeding the poor. BUT God has quieted these aspirations for now. I have become content with going to school, spending time with friends, and worshiping at LCM. Just because I am content for the moment doesn’t mean those aspirations aren’t still there. In all honesty my time here in Fort Collins makes those aspirations stronger. The more I see my blessings the more I realize I am meant to share them with the world.

Not all of us are meant for global missions. Some of us feel God tugging at our heart strings when we see a homeless man asking for change on the street. Some of us feel God calling us to volunteer at the hospital. Some of us are called to write a letter to their congress man/woman speaking out for health care for all. Some of us feel God whispering in their ear to participate in the “take back the night” walk. We are all called to be Jesus, and Jesus is many things. Our time in college is blessed. We have been given the opportunity to learn so that when the time comes to act as Jesus we will do it with passion. I am content going to school, living in a house that is far too large, having meals on a regular basis, because I know that my life is blessed. No matter how much I crave to be Jesus in the world, I always have the opportunity to be Jesus at CSU and in Fort Collins.

Be content with where God has placed you. Know that you can always be Jesus in this place, in this now.
