Great Results At Region Band Auditions Saturday, October 17th, 2009 - 54 LCIS 7th and 8th grade band musicians attended Region Band auditions at Victory Lakes Intermediate School. It is a great achievement for any band member to take part in these auditions and we say good job to all those who attended. Congratulations and a big pat on the back for 24 band members who's performances deserved them a place in one of the three region bands. 8 students earned places in the District Band, 9 in Region Concert Band and 7 outstanding students who earned a place in the top band, the Region Symphonic. A list of names are shown below. It was a long day for all involved, starting at 8:00a.m., especially for those instrument groups with large numbers of students, such as flutes, clarinets, trumpets and percussion. The day did not end until almost 5 p.m. for some of those students. Most of them remained at the school to wait for their results. We would also like to say a BIG THANK YOU to all the parent volunteers who chaperoned on Saturday. At times, it was very noisy as our young musicians warmed up in the commons but we are proud to say there were no reports of misbehavior or mischief and we commend all our students for making us proud! Parents, once again, thank you for being there. We could not have done it without you. Those students who placed in one of the top two bands (Region Concert and Region Symphonic) will attend an all day, Region XVIII Region Band Clinic on Saturday, November 7th. Check our calendar for details. This will be followed by a concert performance early that same evening. However, the District Band does not perform but those students will act as alternates in case musicians from one of the other bands are absent or sick. The goal of a contest like this is to let the students experience the whole process of being in competition from beginning to end. They learn a lot about the dynamics of the music, as well as embouchure and fingering techniques required to produce a good sound. They also experience the nerve-wracking task of performing a solo, not only in front of the judges, but also, in front of their fellow peers. That is a very difficult task for some students to undertake. Ultimately, whether a student earns a place in one of the region bands or not, the whole process results in our band members practicing more, gaining more confidence, and, by the time they reach audition, becoming a more accomplished musician, overall. No matter where your child placed in the competition, we can say, without a doubt, he or she is now a more accomplished musician than they were back in August. Knowing that to be true, we congratulate every single one of those students who took part. We are VERY PROUD OF YOU ALL!!!! THANK YOU FOR WORKING SO HARD! Below is a list of students who earned a place in one of the Region Bands.
