Research

Welcome to my homepage. My research interests are in the areas of stochastic modeling of supply chain systems, meta-heuristics, and humanitarian logistics. My previous work in supply chain management was largely focused on information sharing using constrained Markov Decision Processes (MDP). More recently, I have been exploring the use of stochastic programming methods to address pre-positioning problems in humanitarian logistics. However, my first love is still MDP modeling. To find out  more about the research I am involved in with my students, follow the links to the right.

Teaching

I teach undergraduate courses in probability, production control, and stochastic operations research (sheer torture for the undergraduates). I teach graduate courses in supply chain management, service sector engineering, inventory management,  and stochastic processes (continuous and discrete time processes).

Education and Industry Experience

Before diving into a career in academia, I spent 12 years working in industry. A snapshot of my education and industry background is given below.

Refer to my CV for a more detailed list of my activities.

Doctor of Philosophy in Industrial Engineering, North Carolina State University, 2005

Master of Science in Industrial and Management Engineering, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, 1993

Bachelor of Science in Computational Mathematics, Rochester Institute of Technology, 1991

Software Engineer, IBM Research Triangle Park 1993-2005.

  • Designed and developed Product Data Management interfaces for Integrated Supply Chain (ISC) implementation of SAP in Guadalajara, Research Triangle Park, and Shenzen·
  • Technical lead for SAP-Workflow development activities to support ISC business initiatives such as production instance consolidation, Printer systems division  and Personal Computing Division convergence, archiving, technical upgrades and process improvement.
