CLUB COMPETITION RULES 2010

  1. All competitions to be played under Bowls England Rules - unless varied by these rules.
  2. All members playing in the competitions (with the exception of the Sponsored pairs) MUST be available to play on the Club Finals Day in September.

  1. Benevolent Cup – Participation in this competition is restricted to members who have not won either this competition, Championship or Handicap singles within the last 5 (Five) years.

  1. Tompkins Cup – Participation in this competition is restricted to members aged 55 years and over as at the 1st May.

  1. Drawn Pairs – the draw for this will be a random draw from all entrants.

  1. Drawn Triples – This draw will be a random draw from pre-selected pools of entrants (handicap based) with one from each of three pools forming a triple.

  1. Invitation Mixed Pairs will be played over 21 ends and the choice of partner for the pairing will be from the opposite gender and by invitation from either member.

  1. The Management Committee will appoint Stewards for each competition that will deal with and arbitrate on any problems that may arise. The name of the appointed steward will be shown on the draw sheet for each competition.

  1. All competition rounds, (with the exception of the Drawn Pairs, Drawn Triples and Sponsored Pairs) are to be completed by the closing date specified. Failure to play by the closing date of any round will result in both players/pairs being eliminated from the competition unless.

a)      They have contacted the Competition Steward and he/she has agreed to an extension of the date.

OR

b)      One player/pair has tried unsuccessfully to arrange the match and has informed the Competition Steward of this situation with enough time for the steward to stipulate a date for the match to be played in order to get the round or rounds completed by the closing date.

  1. All players have an equal responsibility for contacting their opponents to agree a date of play and also arrange for a member to act as marker (singles games only). If contact has not been made between opponents by such a date as the Competition Steward has concern that the round or rounds will not be completed by closing date then the Steward will stipulate a date for the match to be played in order to get the round or rounds completed by closing date. All competitors will be responsible for making sure the agreed date and time of play is recorded on the rink booking forms.

  1. The dates shown for the Club Pairs and Club Triples are fixed dates and matches should be played on the specified date UNLESS ALL players mutually agree to the match taking place before the appointed date, and have informed the Competition Steward.

  1. Rinks are to be selected (with a priority over ‘roll-ups’ and from those remaining available) by the drawing of a rink number immediately prior to the commencement of a match.

  1. If a player or team fails to be ready within 30 minutes of the time fixed for the tie the opponent(s) may claim a ‘walkover’.

  1. In Handicapped Competitions the following WILL apply:

a)      Where the game is 21 shots then the difference in handicaps will be added to the higher handicapped players target i.e. 21 shots plus handicap difference.

b)      Where the game is 21 ends then the difference in handicaps will be added to the lower handicapped players score at the first end of play.

  1. The appointment of substitutes may only take place with the agreement of the Competition Steward and only if drawn from the available pool of non-participating members which can be obtained from the Competition Steward.
