IntroA LTTO malfunctioned the day I got it on ebay. It will only accept tags within 5 feet. Of course a tagger with GOD MOD is useless. I try to find a way to bring it back.
A machine gun that's hard to hit, remind me of MG42 in Saving Private Ryan. So I decided to build a defense MG.
Idea- Such powerful tagger, must be harder to wield. Adding parts to make it big and mean, also set rules about switching position.
- There are some parts left from my LTX G36 mod which can be used to upgrade LTTO.
- Considering limiting the range, a defense MG with great range will be too hard for the offense team. This will be easily achieved by setting LTTO to indoor mode.
- Change reload mechanism. Although I can't change it software wise, I may be able to add physical obstacles to extend reload time. (Always wait for MG42 to reload before you charge in.) More over, I'm wondering is there a way to make a counter of some sort, so there will be 3 fast reload (the usual way for LTTO) and followed by a complex slow reload. This way it's like the MG hads a 40 rounds magazine.
Progress- Using glue gun to temporarily hold the G36 parts on LTTO (this is not the one that's broken).
 - Additional toy gun has arrived, its stock will be used after I finished the front portion.
- I've temporarily glue the magazine holder onto the front gun, and screw them onto LTTO. Also the LTTO's barrels had been cut off to turn vertically, so they would fit the front gun. The magazine can now be removed and installed. I'm preparing to add electronics in front gun, and then work on the stock.
- The stock was from a cheap M16 knock off, it's 3:4 scaled so it fit the battery tray door better. The other reason I used it is because the stock is unique and won't be recognized from existing firearms.
I used two screws to fix the two halves on the tray door. (You can see I cut away the bottom of the stock a bit so it'd fit better) - I then applied epoxy bondo to fill the gap between tray door and stock. I also cut away a narrow opening on top of the stock to provide access.
After discussion, I've had some excellent suggestions from Lazer TAG Board members Zook and djdrthq, which shaped the entire reload mechanism.
- Add bolt to the barrel, which control a 3 way switch, press the switch to activate reload circuit (backward position), release the switch to activate trigger circuit (forward position). In this picture you can also see I've moved the emitter to the front end, to avoid any mis-alignment or blockage.
- Add reload button inside the magazine holder, must be pressed with the bolt in backward position to activate reload.
- Add switch to detect magazine, must be pressed with magazine to enable trigger function.
- Remove Shield, Mega shot. Also disabled sound switch (no silent shots).
After soldering all the wires, I closed the casing and tested it, it worked.
I've also record a short video to show how it works.
I have painted the gun black, and left the control panel unpainted. Also added carrying handle and a silver board of greeblies to cover the access point.
