ABOUT LAYERS

SARA SINTONEN:

The Layers -project is a cultural approach
to studying and teaching digital media literacy.

The aim of the project is to bring out the different aspects of digital literacy and media education involving the critical and creative thinking.

The goal is to make this knowledge accessible by combining the audiovisuality with a theoretical background.

In this project digital literacy will be reviewed as a form of self expression.

The focus is both in individual and social processes. Digital literacy is seen as series of choices where different aspects bunch together as layers.

Digital literacy could be then considered
from more comprehensive point of view.

TAPIO VARIS:

The cultural dimension in the ICT applications also bring the dimension of feelings and the spirit of sharing and caring to the process.

The social dimension requires inclusive policies. In an intercultural world
communication necessarily mediates different values and cultural behaviors.

Great civilizations and cultures have very different patterns of communication and use different senses in a different way. In consequence, if a truly global information society is to be created, more attention
should be given to the diversity of cultures and the co-existence of different civilizations and cultures.
