Saturday 16th October
Indigo 50km & 30km Scratch Race

Saturdays race saw a good turn out of riders to have a scratch race with 4 grades. A and B grade road together out along the 50km course to the fire shed on Indigo road. On the way out there was a strong headwind which kept the bunch together till the turnaround. On the way back the pace picked up with the assistance of the wind and the bunch stayed together for the sprint with Aaron Last taking out A grade and Dave Mann a close second. B grade was won by Jason Baoghordst and Zachary Drury in second.

C grade rode well to the turn working well with the strong headwind. On the way back there was a couple of attacks from Declan and Geoff but they weren't able to last. In the sprint young Declan Dempster came off with the win and Terry Halpin finished a strong second.

D grade also stayed together till the last few kilometers where young Stephen lost contact with the fast tailwind only to catch the bunch by surprise hitting the pack in the last 500 mtrs. This caused the bunch to react and new comer James Vogel won the sprint with Tim Allen picking up a well earned second.

Thank you to Karen Dempster and Callum Dwyer for marshalling and Dave Mann for being the commissaries.

This weekend there is a 30 km handicap scheduled, this may end up a club ride as there is a few other conflicting events on that may reduce the numbers.

It was great to see 16 riders turn up for the 31km handicap race out along Plunketts rd on the weekend, as there was a lot of riders away racing. The conditions were good with a strong headwind out making the run home fast. The front markers rode well and held off the next two bunches till 8km to go, they soon got into a rythm and worked well only to be caught by the back markers with 3km to the finish.

Paul Ingwersen attacked just over 1km from the finish and Aaron last was able to go with him, they were both able to hold the pack off with Paul taking the win and Aaron coming in second. A strong performance from Adam Farrugia and Zachary Drury saw them take out 3rd and 4th respectively. Kirsty Deacon rode a great race to stay with the pack to be the first front marker home.

A huge thanks goes out to Joe Deacon for marshalling the turn-around and the finish, Geoff Damm for being the follow car and Paul Ingwerson for being the commissaries.

Saturday July 23rd
Stead St to Plunkett’s Rd 31km Handicap
Another very good turnout for the 50km race out Indigo Valley rd on the weekend and it was the middle markers who got up for the win. A sensational ride by Marcus Dwyer, Jason  and Zac Drury (5min30) had them holding time to the scratch bunch of Brendan Washington, James Rendell, Steve Kilpatrick and Declan Gregory the first half of the race and losing only 1min30 to the block group of Paul Ingwerson and Chris Mumme (2min). Up ahead Tim Allen had the unluckiest ride of the day, puncturing twice in the first 20km and with Glen Jarvis left on his own it was the 12min bunch of Mick Washington, Jeff Drury, Adam Farrugia and Trudi Beck who took up the front running and at the turn were still holding a 2min gap on the Dwyer group with another 2min back to the Brown group. Strong work and before the quarry the lead group was caught and numbers had swollen to eleven setting up a big finish.  In the end Aaron Last kicked clear to comfortably take the win ahead of Ryan Allen, Damien Christian and Mick Washington.  Further back Kade Brown took the bunch sprint to secure fastest time on the day.

Saturday July 16th
Stead St to Plunkett’s Rd 31km Handicap
Saturdays race saw a great turnout with 28 riders lining up.  Conditions again were good with a small tailwind on the outward leg making the pace on the way out high. The back markers caught block early and formed a large group which worked well together to start their focus on the remaining 5 bunches. Not long after the turn around the front three bunches came together and worked well into the wind.

The head wind once again proved to be the help the back markers needed as they became a large bunch which worked well together to catch the front riders 4kms from home. There were a few attacks to try and get away for the win but each time the pack was able to bring them back to the pack. This meant there was going to be a bunch sprint as riders started to find the right wheel for the best lead out.

Greg Featoby made a great charge for the line taking out first place with Kade Brown finishing a strong second and Declan Gregory came in third to round out the top 3. Kirsty Deacon rode a fantastic race to be the firat female home.

Saturday July 2nd
Stead St to Plunkett’s Rd 31km Handicap
On the weekend we had a great turnout for the first race in the second half of the road season calendar with 27 competitors lining up.  Conditions again were good with a strong tailwind on the outward leg making life relatively easy but being followed up by a strong headwind for the fight home always going to favour the backmarkers.
A strong limit group of Castlemain rider Shirly Amy, Jodie Uphill, Glen Jarvis and Tim Allen got things underway off a mark of 9min 30 and with a larger bunch behind in Jeff Drury, Wangaratta rider Steve O’Brien, Rod Scarvell, Craig Arnell and Chris Little off 8min, these two groups would join to form a big front bunch that shared their work well and would form a formidable chase for everyone else.
At the back of the field, a strong scratch bunch of Kade Brown, Paul Ingwerson, Declan Gregory and Brendon Washington started strongly and by 12km in had swallowed up the 1min 30 group of Dave and Geoff Schilg, Aaron Mills and Aaron Last who wasn’t enjoying a tough handicap in his first road race. Next up was the 3min bunch of Sdhane Way, Craig and Liam McAlister, Jamie Ruddy and Ken Payne and the 5min bunch of Damien Christian, Geoff Damm, Zac Drury, Callum Dwyer and Ryan Allen and they had pulled the race back by the 20km mark with only the front markers to catch.
A tough catch they looked to be for the second week in a row, but the strong headwind and a large working chase bunch proved too much and with 2km to go they too were devoured and the race was now on. A courageous attack at the join was made by Kade Brown with young gun Ryan Allen on his wheel as they made an attempt to steal the race, hoping the fellow scratch markers might let them go, but nothing was going to get away into the headwind and they were quickly brought back.  And when it looked like a bunch sprint was likely, Shane, Declan Aaron Mills and Zac Drury jumped clear on the last hill and had enough in the legs to stay away and fight out the finish with Millsy winning ahead of Shane Way and Declan Gregory. Shirly Amy finished comfortably in the bunch to be home as first female.

                                 Saturday June 25th
                                            Plunkett’s Rd 31km Handicap
We had a great turnout on Saturday afternoon for a 31km handicap race out and back on Plunkett’s Rd.  On a gorgeous sunny winter afternoon, Chris Little, Jodie Uphill, Tim Allen and Kirsty Deacon (9min) got the race underway setting off in the hope of being able to hold off the back markers. With everyone out to blow the cobwebs off after a cold start to winter, this was going to be a tough day.
As the race settled down, the second bunch on the road Geoff Damm, Jeff Drury and Ryan Allen (7min) were riding well and closed down the limit bunch before the turn around forming a strong lead bunch and really setting the race up.  Next back Zac Drury, Damien Christian, Rob Belcher and Craig McAlister (5min) had reduced the gap to 30sec with a further 30sec only now back to Jason Dudenas, Mick Washington and Liam McAlister (3:30) by the turn with 12km to go.  Further back the scratch bunch of Brendon Washington, Kade Brown and Declan Gregory had caught the block group of Dave Mann, Jamie Ruddy and Paul Ingwersen and were only a further 1min back at the turn.  The race was on.
As tired legs began to set in, the chase began to falter and the middle chase bunches began to splinter whilst the leading quintet appeared to be getting stronger.  With 2km to go the gap was now out to 45sec as the back markers swamped the chase groups and set off after the leaders, but the finish line loomed too quickly and they were left to sprint for fastest time.  Brendon Washington led the chase bunch in in 46min 49s for fastest time.
Ahead with the chasers looked after, the lead bunch settled down for a sprint and it was Lavington junior and Albury Wodonga Development Team rider Ryan Allen showing all a clean pair of heels skipping clear for a well deserved win ahead of Chris Little and Geoff Damm with Kirsty Deacon putting in a great ride for 4th.

Wagga Wagga Gwen French Memorial Junior Tour

Local Kids Jack Day (U13 AWCC), Zac Cooper (U17 AWCC), Matt Lees (U17 AWCC), Jeff Miles (U17 Lavington Panthers) and Nick Smith (U17 Lavington Panthers) competed in the gruelling Wagga Wagga Gwen French Memorial Junior Tour held at Wanterbadgery, New South Wales over the weekend of 2nd & 3rd May 2009 with some very impressive Results and brilliant Rides.  This is a four Stage event consisting of a Prologue (Individual Time Trial) and three Road Races of varying lengths which are held over the two days.

Under 13B

This was Jack's first tour providing a great platform to base future results on.  Jack experimented in the first two Road Races to work out his strategies.  Having found his MOJO, he rode exceptionally well in his fourth Race leading for most of it until he had an unfortunate fall.  But being a great Sportsman and encouraged by the weekend's performance of the AWCC and LPCC entourage, he hopped back on his bike and finished the Race strongly.  Well done Jack!

Under 17M

The U17M had a large field of 34 entries.  As a result the field was split into A and B.  Zac, Matt, Jeff and Nick found themselves in U17B.

Stage 1 was a 14km Prologue (Individual Time Trial).  Matt placed 2nd, Nick 3rd, Zac 7th and Jeff 11th.

Stage 2 was a 68km Road Race.  Nick 3rd, Matt 4th and Jeff 5th.

Stage 3 was a 40km Road Race.  Matt 2nd, Nick 4th, Jeff  7th and Zac 11th.

Stage 4 was a 29km Road Race.   Nick 2nd, Matt 3rd and Jeff 9th.

General Classification  Matt Lees 2nd, Nick Smith 3rd and Jeff Miles 5th.

Thanks to The Full Cycle of Albury for the loan of the Specialized Marquee.  It was very much appreciated and gave all our Kids (LPCC & AWCC) a place to gather, warm up and belong.
