From the Teacher's Desk Sept 28 - Oct 2
1. LA -- Students will be picking a book for their first book talk. An outline of the assignment will be going home before Tuesday of this week. Book talks will be due Oct 29th.
This week in LA we will be finishing our mini unit on paragraph writing. Students will have a quiz on Wednesday. They will be asked to write 2 paragraphs on a given topic and will need to identify the parts of the paragraph.
We will also be starting our first novel study, Bridge to Terabithia. Students will be reading this book in class and completing various assignments.
2. Math -- In math this week we will be continuing with place value up to Millions.
3. Social -- Students should be finished constructing their islands. Now students will need to create an elevation map that is identical to their island. They will need to come up with a name of their island and name the various landforms. We will be using our islands this week to introduce the concepts of elevation maps, longitude/latitude and scale. After our island project we will be starting basic geography of the world and more specifically Canada.
4. Art -- Basic color wheel and Andy Warhol portraits continue from last week.
6. Reminders -- Tomorrow (Monday) is picture day! Best smiles!
-- Friday Oct 2 is a PD day -- no school for students.
