From the Teachers Desk Oct 26th - 30th

1. LA -- This week in LA, we will be continuing with our novel study Bridge to Terabithia.  We will be reading Chapters 9-13 and finishing the novel.  Students will be watching the movie next week and I will be sending home a study guide for the novel quiz so they can study over the weekend. Novel quiz will be Thursday of next week.

2. Math --  In math this week we will be continuing with decimals to Thousandths.

3. Social -- We will be looking at Chapter 1 in our text, "Living with the Land".  We will be reading, discussing, and answering questions. Topics we explore: 1.  What are the main regions, landforms and bodies of water in Canada?    2. Why do natural resources help establish communities? 3. How have the land and the stories and histories of the people in each region shaped who we are as Canadians?

 4. Art -- Our Andy Warhol portraits are finished.  We are learning about mosaic art and completing our pumpkin mosaic project with a focus on texture and shading.

5.  Reminders
-- Tuesday - Hoja presentation in the gym 10:15am - 11:15am
-- Wednesday -- students need to make sure that they have handed in their $4.00 and permission form for Alice's Wonderland.  We will be bussing so no parents drivers needed this time.  Thank you for volunteering.  Students need to also have a bagged lunch to eat in my room starting at 11am so that we can board the bus at 11:35am.  We will be returning to the school at 2:00 in time for the pm recess.
-- Thursday -- our first book talk is due. Students will be given 20min in class on Wed to work on, get help or practice their book talk. In the afternoon students with assignments complete and excellent behaviour will have a reward afternoon with the grade 5's.  Students will need to bring a snack for themselves if they choose.
-- Friday -- Costumes!  A reminder that weapons are not allowed as a part of a costume and must stay at home.  If a student brings them, they will need to stay in my room for the day.  We will be having a classroom treat and participating in a few Halloween activities.  I will have a sign up sheet for snacks and have the kids put the reminder in their agendas.
