From 2010 onwards, there will only be 2 submission award periods – in July and January of each year. This is due in part to the success of the scheme where a high number of eligible members have already attained the PP status in the past year. Members who are now PP will need to re-apply to maintain their status when their validity period expires.
To synchronize with the new award period, they can include activities that they have already used before in the period that overlaps with the new 2-year period. For example, let say that your PP expires in March 2011. This means that you qualified based on activities engaged in the period Apr 2008 to Mar 2009 during the inaugural implementation. To renew your status after Mar 2009, you will need to apply for renewal in Jan 2011 instead of Mar. Your renewal will be based on activities accumulated in the period Jan 2009 to Dec 2010. This means that you can “reuse” activities from Jan to Mar 2009 which you have used in your first qualification period. The diagram below illustrate this scenario.
OTHER CHANGES
The PDS Board also approved the following changes:
1. Attendance at managerial and leadership development courses, workshops or conference regardless of whether they are tailored specifically for librarians is now included as valid activities for ET1-ET9.
2. Points for participation as committee chair or council member of LAS have been adjusted from 146 to 156 to reflect the difference in scope and responsibility of work as office holder of Council (176 points) and committee members (125).
3. The following clarifications were made:
a) Points awarded for serving in a committee is for one year period. For services rendered in 2 years, the points awarded will be doubled. In order to qualify for points for participation as committee member, committee chair or council member, an applicant is required to have attended a minimum of 4 meetings per year during the qualifying period
b) For ID-3, “attendance at library related exhibitions”, applicant will not be eligible if the exhibition is organized by the applicant as part of his/her work, or if it is about the applicant’s organization.
4. The following new categories of points have been approved:
EA-15 [Authorship] Conduct in-house sharing session (at least 45 min) on LIS conference & related areas (50 points)
5. Poster presentations will be adjusted to include number of authors. This is intended to more accurately reflect and award effort and to avoid situations where large groups tag onto a poster presentation to obtain points.
The adjusted categories are:
EA7 Prepare and/or present poster at conference (1 to 2 authors) – 60 points
EA7a Prepare and/or present poster at conference (3 to 4 authors) – 46 points
EA8 &9 Publication of scholarly articles are not restricted to LIS related refereed
journals. Scholarly articles published in refereed non-LIS related journals
are also eligible for consideration under these 2 categories.
These changes are incorporated in the revised guidelines.
