Summer Enrichment Opportunities

Academic opportunities do not have to be limited to just the regular school year. If you are interested in additional academic challenges and personal enrichment consider taking advantage of the Summer Enrichment Opportunities. Many colleges and universities offer special programs for high school students. These pre-college programs tend to be academic in nature. These programs offer students a chance to take college level courses or college prep courses all while experiencing life on a college campus. Some programs are locally based in Chicago or Illinois; some programs are domestic (United States based) and some are held in international locations such as France or Italy.  Summer enrichment programs offer unique experiences, a wide selection of campus activities, career exploration, networking and social activities. Explore the many opportunities listed below by visiting the program’s websites. The Hewitt College and Career Center will continue to update the listing as more summer opportunities become available. If you are unsure about a particular summer opportunity contact your counselor with any questions or concerns. If you have a first-hand experience with a summer enrichment program and would like to share that information with the Lane Tech College Prep community, contact Ms. Console in the Hewitt College and Career Center, room 135.

Description: Colorado College is committed to providing high school students with opportunities to experience what it is like to be a student at a highly selective liberal arts college. One distinctive feature of Colorado College is our calendar format, formally known as the Block Plan, which was adopted in 1970. This one-course-at-a-time (one course per block) system takes place year around, not only in the summertime. During the summer, students focus on one subject at a time for three weeks and two days. This system encourages seminar-style interdisciplinary teaching. Our professors are quite familiar with this schedule; they are experts at teaching courses under the block system and devoting their full attention to each class, covering extensive course material each block. In one block at Colorado College you'll be absorbing, learning, exploring - not cramming - without juggling other classes at the same time. Whether you're on campus, or traveling in the Rocky Mountains, with each block this summer, you'll be learning and discussing ideas with a handful of other students like never before.
