Details for the following scholarships are available in the College & Career Center (CCC), Room 135, or online. Please visit the CCC during your lunch period and make copies of the scholarship of interest to you.  If you have any questions, please see Ms. Console, Scholarship Coordinator.  The following list represents scholarships that Lane students have won or have applied to in the past.  There are over thousands and thousands scholarships available.  Conduct personalized scholarship searches by checking out the websites posted at the end of the bulletin. 

John J Mayer Scholarship Application

 Description: The John J Mayer Scholarship recognizes well deserving students who have a passion for the sciences and plan to pursue a science or science related degree in college.  Only one Lane student will be selected.  Pick up an application from Ms. Console in the CCC.

Ricky Ernst Memorial Scholarship Application

Deadline: May 11, 2012

Award: $500

Description:             Ricky Ernst was a 2005 Lane Tech graduate and Lacrosse player who was beloved by all who came into his life.  Lacrosse inspired Ricky to be a better friend, son, brother, and person.  This scholarship is set up in his memory not only as a way to remember him, but also as a way of encouraging other Lane Tech Lacrosse players to seek that passion that resides within.  Lacrosse players are only eligible to apply (must have two years minimum experience).  Only two Lane students (one male, one female) will be selected.  Pick up an application from Ms. Console in the CCC.

Warren H. Cook Scholarship

Award: $500

Description: The Warren H. Cook Memorial Scholarship honors the life, spirit and integrity of Lane Tech graduate (class of 1938), Warren H. Cook.  Mr. Cook received his degree in Electrical Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT).  Having served in the United States Navy during World War II, Mr. Cook returned home to Chicago where he spent his professional career working as an electrical engineer at Western Electric.  A devoted Mason for over fifty years, Mr. Cook is survived by his wife, Katherine, and four children.  The scholarship award is based on financial need, scholastic ability and a commitment to majoring in engineering.

Dr. Barbara Sherman Memorial Scholarship

Award: $2,500

Description: The Dr. Barbara Sherman Memorial Scholarship honors the memory of a Lane Tech faculty member, Dr. Barbara Sherman.  Dr. Barbara Sherman was a strong advocate for students with 504 and/or IEP Plans.  This scholarship recognizes students with 504 or IEP Plans for their dedication to their academics and commitment to community service.  Only Two Lane students will be selected.  Pick up an application from Ms. Console in the CCC.

Joseph Cardinal Bernardin Scholarship

“Immigrants Aspire!” Scholarship

Description:              Elizabeth Walder, Esq., founder and President of Immigration Law Associates in Skokie, IL, has been helping foreign nationals achieve their immigration goals for more than 20 years.  As a result, she understands the critical role of higher education in unlocking the door of opportunity for immigrant youth and their families.  Yet financial concerns often stand in the way.  To underscore her commitment to immigrant communities in and around Chicago, Mrs. Walder, with her attorneys and staff, is pleased to announce the “Immigrants Aspire!” scholarships and essay competition.  Three scholarship awards – a grand prize of $2,000 and two runner-up prizes of $500 – will be payable directly to each winning student’s college or university.  Winners will also be honored at a special reception and their essays will be featured on the Immigration Law Associates website.  Contestants must prepare a 750-1,000 word essay on the topic: “If you could make one major change in the immigration laws, what would it be and why?”  Essays must be in English.  Entrants must be graduating high school seniors residing in Illinois who will be entering an institution of higher learning in the fall of 2012.  They must be immigrants themselves or have at least one immigrant parent or stepparent. In keeping with the Illinois DREAM Act, the immigration status of contestants and their families will not be a factor in eligibility.

Description:               In recent years, the City of Chicago has experienced a rash of violence that has disproportionately affected CPS students.  The LCSF was created as a way of assisting young people of Chicago in their pursuit of positive opportunities instead of violence.  LCSF wants students to imagine a safer and more productive world for them to live and learn.  As a result, applicants are asked to write a proposal about their ideas on creating change in their own world.  Email CpsScholarships@k12.il.us to request an application.

Description:             Chicago Department of Family and Support Services offers the CSBG Scholarship. Description:             This Scholarship Program is provided by Man Mac Automatic, which provides Automatic Transmission Ser-vices within Kamloops and its surrounding areas.
