Can Technology Bring Us a Utopia? (Extra Credit)

Can Technology Bring Us a Utopian World?

In a world that is perfect, there can not be room, nor should there be need for technology. When the first bit of technology is conceived, then people are constantly trying to make a better version or newer model that can do more things. In a utopia, technology would cause moral corruption and, therefore, would no longer remain a utopia.

Many people believe that technology is the way of the future and that is all that we must focus on: perfecting the world of electronics. While better technology is useful in doing things that we normally wouldn’t be able to do, there certain drawbacks to having it. When, as stated earlier, technology comes out and is produced for the public and companies to have to use, there are many other companies that begin the process of building a “bigger, better” model of whatever the thing may be. This starts the whole process of advancement in society and is nearly impossible to get rid of. Technology, when looking to have a utopia, should be very limited, if not, then totally nonexistent.

For a society to be considered a utopia, it must have a system in which everybody is happy and feels free enough to not complain. However, when the citizens start to realize that what they have is obsolete, then, aside from the problem of maybe trying to make a new invention of the same sort, they may realize that they do not have enough money or are not privileged enough to get whatever the best thing out there is. Problems like these are what rip a society’s reputation as a utopia away.

Being with a limited amount of technology that would cause an evolution or renaissance is prime when thinking about what a utopia is because when there is moral corruption, there becomes a caste system that causes political corruption. When the people that do not have a salary that is comparable to that of another person, then caste system goes from being a meaningless ranking to a source for discrimination. This is due to an incorrect use of the advancement of necessary technology.

As far as electronics go, there is a difference between necessary and unnecessary types. It may be a fantastic idea that will allow a utopia to exist if it were eliminated from the entire thought of everybody as a whole; as to cause the recreation of it to never occur. Such ideas are considered primordial; however, they inhabitants may consider it a better system. When life is simple and not based off of who has the biggest this, or who has the most expensive that, then the people are happier and can focus more on their duties to the community. When people think about what they can buy instead of what they can give, they become greedy and distracted from people around them and their job.

The elimination of electronics or extreme limitation of them is fine for a utopia to be able to exist without moral and/or political corruption. Technology is one of the main sources of the world’s political corruption; who has the best weapons. To answer the question of: Can technology bring us a utopian world? The answer is no, it does not, with many examples as proof.
