Reducing waste

How do we reduce the amount of household waste which needs to be sent to landraise?

Do you have a garden where you could compost more of your food waste? Do you recycle glass, tins, paper, cardboard, plastic? Do you shop locally? Do you choose loose fresh food rather than packaged? Do you take your own bags to go shopping or use throwaway plastic bags? Do you pass on unwanted clothes, books or toys to charity or friends? Could you repair more things rather than throw them away? Could you take your goods to sell at a car-boot fair, hold your own garage sale or donate to a jumble sale?

All these are ways of reducing your personal contribution to the growing waste mountains which local authorities have to deal with. However there are a lot of other items which can be recycled. Here is a list of local authority sites that will accept and deal with them.
