Lancaster University Canoe Club

Welcome to the home of Lancaster University Canoe Club, one of the universities most active and successful sports clubs.

Kayaking is one of the UK's fastest growing sports and university is a great place to get involved!

As a club we welcome all abilities to come along and learn how to kayak in both weekly pool and river sessions. We don't just stick to kayaking down rivers, we also do canoe polo, canal and lake trips.

Our pool sessions are used to both teach and practice all our kayaking skills which are held on the following days and times:

Monday     7:45am - 9:00am
Tuesday    7:45am - 9:00am
Friday       7:45am - 9:00am
Sunday     4:45pm - 6:00pm

Don't worry if you have a 9am lecture straight after a pool session, you can just leave a bit earlier!

If you wish to contact the club for any further information then just send us an email and we will get right back to you.

    Presidents trip

This weekend we are off to Wales! Car groups, leaving times and other details will be up on the forum soon so keep an eye out for them. We will be having dinner once we arrive at the bunk house so you don’t need to worry about food for the Friday night. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will also be sorted for you on Saturday as well as breakfast and lunch on Sunday. Don’t forget to buy lots of snacks to have on the river and to keep you going between meals. Also remember to bring a sleeping bag and lots of warm layers as it will most probably be pretty cold.

    Social

For this weeks social we will be doing a bar crawl around town visiting the more alternative bars and pubs that we never usually go to as a club. We will be meeting in the Water Witch at 8.00pm on Wednesday and for anyone going from campus Phil/Alex will be meeting people at 7.30pm at the Chaplaincy centre bus stop. If you have any questions then contact Aileen who will be running the social.

    Competitions

    BUCS slalom

This year BUCS slalom will be held at the Tees Barrage and will be held on the 17-19th Febuary. If you want to come but aren’t sure if you’re good enough then speak to Megan about it, basically you just have to get from the top of the course to the bottom, even if you miss loads of gates it doesn’t matter! There will also be a party on the Saturday night. We will be staying in a motel which will cost about £20 each so if you want to come you need to sign up on the forum and pay the £20 to Rhys by the 30th of January. We should hopefully be having a slalom practice on the Wednesday of week 13 so keep an eye on the forum for that.

    FOA

Sign up for the next FOA is now up, and it will be on Sunday 12th Febuary. Sign up will close on the 6th of Febuary and you will need to have paid Rhys the £20 petrol costs by then (if it works out cheaper you will be refunded the difference)

    Fitness

This Tuesday we are meeting at the new sports centre at 5.30pm for a jog around campus then going for a swim/sauna afterwards which will cost £3.60 without membership. There are also plans to get some pizza afterwards if you want.

    Exec nominations

The nominations sheet for the Exec positions is still up outside the AU office and will be there until the first of Febuary at 12pm. If you wish to run for a position you will need someone to first and second you and for them to sign the sheet. If you go into the LUSU building below the spar and walk down the corridor on the right the sheets will be on a big noticeboard on the left hand side. The details of each position are also up on the forum. Hustings will be on the Wednesday of week 13 in Furness LT 2.

    Much love,

    The Exec x

Welcome back for another term, hopefully you’ve all had a good holiday!

    Rivers

This week for our Saturday trip we will be doing the upper Lune and this will be open to everyone. If you are a fresher coming on President’s trip it would be good for you to come along on this and get some proper river practice before we go. We are aiming for a campus meet at about 9am. Sign up and more details will be on the forum soon.

    Socials

This Wednesday we are going to the cinema to see the new Sherlock! The film will be starting at 8.15pm so we will be meeting outside at 8.15pm. We will probably be going for drinks afterwards so if you don’t fancy the film you can always just join us afterwards, this will probably be in the Friary but someone can let you know at the time.

    Fitness

This Tuesday we will be meeting at the new centre at 5.30pm and going for a jog, either on the trim trail or around campus.

    Exec nominations

The nominations sheet for the Exec positions will be going up outside the AU office after lunch tomorrow. If you wish to run for a position you will need someone to first and second you and for them to sign the sheet. If you go into the LUSU building below the spar and walk down the corridor on the right the sheets will be on a big noticeboard on the left hand side. The details of each position are now up on the forum.

    Lifeguarding for the club

There will be a lifeguard course on the 11th- 18th of Febuary. Sign up and further details are on the forum. You would have the cost of the course at a reduced price as the club would pay for part of it as we need lifeguards to run the pool sessions, and it looks great on your CV so get signing up!

    Have a good week!

    Much love,

    The Exec x

    Pool sessions

This Friday will be the last pool session of the term as this is the last day we know most people will definitely be around. Pool sessions will start again as normal on Monday 16th of January.

    Rivers

There will be no river trips on this week

    Social

This week is the end of term meal! Pre drinks will start at 6.30pm in Dalton rooms and then we will be heading over to the Borough for 7.30pm. Dress code is smart and hopefully everyone should have paid by now but if not you need to do it asap!

    Alps video

This Tuesday night will be the first official screening of our Alps video! After hours of editing it is now ready for viewing and it will be held in Furness LT 1 at 6.30pm. Feel free to come down and watch to see what we get up to even if you didn’t come on the trip.

    Comps

FOA – The post is now up for the next FOA which will be on the 22nd of January. If you enjoyed the Christmas polo tournament at the weekend or discovered some unknown skills you should sign up and put them to good use!

BUCS Slalom – The final details have not yet been confirmed but once they are we will be putting the sign up on the forum some time over Christmas so keep a look out for it!

Want to be on the Exec?

There will be some information going up shortly on the forum about the different roles and the Exec and what we all do. Hustings will be in week 2 of next term so you have plenty of time to have a think about it over Christmas. It looks great on your CV and it's a really nice way to give something back to the club, and if you have any questions about it there will be email addresses on the post so you can get in touch and ask.

Merry Christmas! Wishing you all a great holiday!

    Much Love,

    The Exec x
