Notes on 2009 Events

CLUB TIME TRIALS

    • Club evening TT events will run every Thursday from 2/04/09 to 10/09/09 inclusive. The road based 10’s will be on the Denny Beck 10 mile course, turning at the Farleton Road junction. The HQ for these events will be the drive in lay-by between Denny Beck & Scarthwaite. For the Salt Ayre events the HQ is at the track entrance from the Salt Ayre Sports Center car park. For the evening events the first two and last two will start at 18:45, other April & August events will start at 19:00 and May, June & July events at 19:30.
    • All races are open to all classes of club membership but in Championship Events, although second claim members can win any cash prizes available on the day, only first claim members are eligible for the Championship.
    • Membership subs must be paid before members may ride in club events.
    • Standard entry fee for all club events is £2-00 for seniors with no charge for juniors & juveniles.
    • Non-members of a cycling club may ride on payment of a further £1-00 day membership fee.
    • Juniors and juveniles (12 to 17 year olds) are allowed to ride at the organiser’s discretion and subject to the submission of a parental consent form to LCC for the season.
    • Only members of LCC are allowed to ride in the Bank Holiday 10s on Levens.
    • All races with the exception of Open Events, Championship Events, Bank Holiday 10s on Levens and Inter Club / Combined Club events are 'entry on the line'. The organiser on the day may limit the number of entries especially in view of evening events and lighting up times.
    • Entries for open events should be sent to the organiser on CTT entry forms. Organisers of open events are as stated in the NLTTA handbook and on the CTT website and entries close at close at 6pm on the Tuesday 11 or 12 days before the event.
    • Entries for Championships in Open TTs should follow the above procedure for open events.
    • Entries for Bank Holiday events should be to the racing secretary or designated organiser by the advertised closing date. Please enter early and provide your age and best time at the distance in current and last three years. Remember your responsibility to pay the entry fee even if you DNS.
    • Field size of Bank Holiday 10s on Levens will be limited so that the last rider will finish before 9am. Subject to the size of the field entries for Bank Holiday events will be accepted 'on the line' but riders will not be eligible for the Championship or any handicap awards. These entries will go at the end of the field or fill any DNS spots.
    • Please ride responsibly to ensure your own safety and that of other road users and pedestrians. Marshals will be placed at significant junctions or turns on the course for events to indicate the direction but the onus is on riders to obey the rules of the road and effect safe manoeuvres. You must familiarise yourself with the course details and read the risk assessment before riding and remember to ride with your head up.
    • Riders are strongly advised to wear a hard shell helmet that meets an internationally accepted safety standard. For juvenile and junior riders the wearing of such helmets is compulsory.
    • For further information about riding time trials with LCC contact the racing secretary, Graham Atkinson (01524 793396 e-mail: graham.atkinson@btinternet.com).
    • CIRCUIT RACING
    • The Salt Ayre League is organised by the Salt Ayre Cycling Association formed by Lancaster CC, Lune RCC, Kent Valley RC and Lakes RC led by the organising team of Tony Sweeney, Nev Pearson, Geoff Newcombe and Chris Anderson with help from club members. Entries are 'on the line' only. Events are every Tuesday from 14th April to the 25th August. The main event for 1/2/3/4/W/J is 1 hour + 5 laps. It starts at 6.45ish for the first 4 or 5 weeks and last few weeks but in summer is at 7.00 or 7.15. Over the summer there will be a supporting race at 6.30 for novice 4th cat senior and junior men, women and experienced youth riders to encourage newcomers to bunch racing. It will be 20 minutes + 3 laps. Entry fee is £7 and riders will be asked to register with the League (no extra cost) and keep the same number all season. League points are awarded for every starter and the first 10 finishers (main event) or 6 (support race) and points make prizes at the end of the season. All races require a BC licence (day licences may be taken if you don't wish to take out a full licence) and have BC points on offer.
    • If you fancy a try at bunch racing this is the place to start with the support events. Contact Nev Pearson 07963 138520 for more details.
    • The Association will also be running the Salt Ayre 2 day stage race and Morecambe Promenade races in 2009 and helped to set up the regular Saturday youth training under the British Cycling Go-Ride scheme with trained coaches in charge. This now runs independently under the Salt Ayre Cog-Set club.
