My former 1st grade classroom!
|
| The 2007-2008 school year will be my 4th year teaching 2nd grade. I really love this grade level and really don't have a desire to change.
The neat thing about this classroom is that years ago, it was my first grade classroom. It also houses an antique clawfoot bathtub... this too was in my first grade classroom. I remember racing to the tub during silent reading time and it is now a place where my students can cuddle up with pillows dive into a good book.
Below are some pictures taken August 20, 2007. 2 Days students!
In the above picture (L-R): My cart holding our Reading and Science text books. My students' mailboxes. I created this with vinyl closet organizers hanging from a closet rod inside a frame created by my father in law... THANKS GARRY! My big red cabinet... attached to the wall.. super awkward... but its good to house all the Kleenex boxes that come in at the beginning of each school year and some class sets of books and science lab/math lab supplies...etc. My tall skinny wood cabinet between the wall and the red cabinet. This houses my seasonal books/holiday books. My fire door leading outside to the blacktop play area and playgrounds.
In the above picture (L-R): My overhead storage area, under my fire pull. My two metal cabinets that house: take home books, unused pocket charts, holiday decor and unit plans/manipulatives, games/manipultives for centers, indoor recess puzzles/blocks/games, big books from curriculum. On top of the cabinets: storage for posters, storage for the surplus of supplies (crayons/markers/glue /etc.), and inside the brown containers: 1) extra spiral notebooks (used for journaling and notes) 2) binders. collected and held until we start our poetry 3) extra folders, In front of the cabinets: my small group meeting table. My art supply storage book shelfs. In front of the book shelf: my bath tub for reading time.
In the above picture: (L-R) My bin of big books. My pocket cart waiting area (adds to the privacy of the bath tub. My tub. My green chair from IKEA. My art supply storage area. Each color of construction paper gets its own drawer. The large drawers house cardboard rolls/tubes and yarn, assorted paper, pencil surplus, community markers, community crayons, community colored pencils. My classroom library. My books are sorted by fiction and nonfiction. My book basket labels can be downloaded and viewed on my Fun Files page.
In the above picture (L-R): The rest of my classroom library. My book basket labels can be downloaded and views on my Fun Files papge. My computer corner. 3 in all. These are in addition to our school computer lab. One of my file cabinets.
This is my job chart. Each child has card with their name on it. The cards are moved from pocket to pocket. On the pocket the student will see what their job is. Jobs: Line leader, Caboose, Paper passer, Paper collector, Board eraser, Folder passer, Bathtub Reader, Green chair reader, Girls bathroom checker, Boys bathroom checker, Calendar person, Librarian, Lunch card caller, Floor cleaner, Book passer.
This is my calendar area. Above wil be my word wall.
