Notice to Residents and Property Owners

In the Town of Lakewood

The Lakewood Planning and Zoning Commission will hold a Public Hearing on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at the Town Hall to receive public input on proposed Zoning Ordinance text changes and additions.  The changes and additions apply to Article VIII, Section 6 Variances and Other.

A summary of the proposed changes and additions are as follows: proposed amendments would implement the new “practical difficulties” standard for variances adopted in Minnesota Statutes, Section 462.357, shorten procedural deadlines, and transfer the functions of Lakewood’s Board of Adjustment to the Planning and Zoning Commission.  These functions include hearing requests for variances and appeals of decisions by an administrative officer in the enforcement of the zoning ordinance.

The public is invited to provide input to the Commission in their making a recommendation to the Board of Supervisors. Input may be provided in person at the Hearing or by sending written comments to: Town of Lakewood, 3110 Strand Rd., Duluth, MN 55803 or by email to: townclerk@lakewoodmn.org.

The proposed changes in text for this section of the Zoning Ordinance may be requested by calling the Town Office at 525-4991 or by viewing the proposed changes on the web site at: lakewoodmn.org under the link, Planning and Zoning.
