When do practices start? Full team practices will start on Tuesday, September the 7th on the field opposite the LU Fieldhouse. They'll run from 5:30pm sharp to 7:30pm every Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from there on. In addition we'll have to extra sessions at Noon on Sunday the 12th and Saturday the 21st in order to gear up for the start of the season. When's the first game? Our first two games will be away games on September 25th and October 2nd. We will be departing to the University of Wisconsin La Crosse on Friday (Sept. 24th) and returning on Sunday (Sept. 26th). The following week we will be playing in the Sudbury 7's tournament, again departing on Friday (Oct. 1st) and returning on Sunday (Oct. 2nd). I've been in Thunder Bay all summer and am pretty rusty, what can I do to get ready? You can come out for skill sessions every Sunday at 10am at the field across from old Hillcrest High school. We'll be running basic drills and fitness in order to bring everyone up to speed before September. What documents do I need before the season starts? Unless you have an up to date Passport, Enhanced Driver's License, Secure Certificate of Indian Status or NEXUS card you need to apply for a passport immediately. As well everyone is strongly encouraged to have additional health insurance to cover you in case you are injured when we visit the U.S. such as the LUSU health plan or Blue Cross. What can I do to help out? Recruit. We accept and encourage all newcomers to the sport of rugby and you do not have to be a student to participate. In order to keep the club alive its crucial we recruit new players every year. Attached is a copy of our promo poster. Put these up in whatever public space you can, such as your local grocery store, coffee shop, gym, workplace, church or bar. Make it your goal to bring out one friend to practice. If everyone shows up with one new recruit, we've instantly doubled our numbers. It's also crucial you help recruit new female players. Without a female side, we would not be able to secure funding from LU. It may seem silly to you, but most women are unaware women's rugby even exists, so get the word out. Where can I go for additional info? If you have any questions or concerns email Lakeheadrfc@gmail.com or call the Men's side rep, Adam 'bumbles' Ellis, at (807) 629-3710. Additional info and documents are also available at www.LakeheadRugby.ca and you can check in regularly to keep up do date. See you all this Fall, Adam Ellis VP Lakehead RFC |
