Laila's Nick Name
May 5, 2009

If I'm not mistaken, I think Laila didn't care much for her nick name, "She Bee Stingin'". She may be use to it now. It sounded a little odd to me when I first heard it. I know that it came from part of her father's rhyme, "Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee....". There are several names within Laila's nick name.

1. Mrs. Sting
2. The Queen of Sting
3. The Bee Stinging Queen
4. The Beat Down Stinger
5. The Lady Bee Stingin' Champion

If Laila Doesn't Return to Boxing

posted ‎‎Jun 4, 2009 8:17 PM‎‎ by Gail Nobles

If Laila Ali doesn't return to boxing, I will never forget her.  I'm praying for her family, and I'm glad that she has a family. I think she has done a great job in boxing. Many people have criticized her because they really didn't understand. They are not there to see all of the in between stuff she was going through as a fighter. They only saw the entertainment and her as a boxer. That's all we see in newspapers and television. Now, I see things differently looking back at her past fights, and looking at other women boxers now. I'm able to pick up on things that I did not see before. All I could see was Laila winning. Now, I see where Laila worked hard although she couldn't loose. I saw one of the girls she fought bleeding. Her fights had to be real fights. She is the best. I wanted her to know that I truly appreciate it.

Sugar Ray Leonard & Laila Ali Workout

posted ‎‎May 24, 2009 12:49 PM‎‎ by Gail Nobles   [ updated ‎‎May 24, 2009 10:06 AM‎‎ ]

Why did I start with the heavyweight advanced workout with Sugar Ray L. and Laila Ali? I Should have gotten the lightweight first. The first time I started watching it, before I could even begin, I was tired. I thought,"I've got to mow the grass tomorrow with the push mower and the rider." I tried a little bit of the advanced workout and Laila and Ray were going too fast. I was all mixed up and doing stuff wrong. When I first put the dvd in, I knew Ray was going to be fast. He was showing how to throw 3 punches. In the end he put all of them together and started throwing them too fast. I thought I had it down pat when he was going slow. I had to laugh and say, "Sugar Ray, you ain't right."

When another day came, I was out in the yard getting yard exercise clipping tree limbs, clipping down weeds, and all of the stuff that needed trimming with a weed eater. I had no weed eater, so I used a pair of clippers. My hands and arms were sore. After that day, I tried the advanced workout again. The jump and jacks with Laila and Ray really made me tired. I was feeling it in my legs. All that jumping around was no joke.

Some people say that skinny people don't need exercise. It's a lie lady's and gentlemen. It's a lie. I'm skinny and I know I need to exercise. I can feel it in my bones when I don't. Being out of breath feels like asthma.

WII Punch Out Game

posted ‎‎May 15, 2009 5:29 PM‎‎ by Gail Nobles   [ updated ‎‎May 15, 2009 2:38 PM‎‎ ]

I played the Wii Punch Out Game. I beat it the first time around, but it was tough to play. You really have to swing your arms mashing the controllers. I was really feeling it. It was even more tiresome playing against my father and not the game itself. He nocked me down, I nocked him down, and we kept on and on that way until the end of the game. I couldn't believe that I had won.

Now, that I have played the punch out game, I kind of get a little taste of what being tired is in boxing. I see Laila Ali leaning on her opponents and getting tangled up with them. I felt almost that tired, and so did my father. I already know that the real sport is not a joke.

Making It Happen

There was a girl that wanted to box Laila Ali, but she couldn’t because she had problems with a contract. Before Laila left the ring, I saw the frustrations on both sides. You know, I don’t remember that girl’s name that wanted to fight Laila, but if it had been me instead of her with my temper, I would have thrown that contract in the dumpster. It was getting her nowhere. 2nd, I would have walked right across the floor to get Laila, and I believe I would have hit her to make that fight happen, although I would have got my head torn off. If I was the fighter, I would have given Laila what she wanted. She would have enjoyed me. I probably would have been ready to box the management teams too. Sometimes you have to cut up to make things happen.

If I had to be in the ring with Laila, and if the referee stopped the fight too soon, I would be ready to get him too. I know I would. They would have to send me to anger management. Notice I used the word “if” the whole time. I’m not saying I want to box Laila. Just wanted to point that out.

It's funny, but I can hear Laila in my conscious saying: That's a great big "IF".

Laila Ali and Verb

posted ‎‎May 4, 2009 6:35 PM‎‎ by Gail Nobles   [ updated ‎‎May 9, 2009 9:47 AM‎‎ ]

Do you remember "School House Rock"? Do you remember the song and lyrics "Verb" by Bob Dorough? The animation was by Phil Kimmelman. Whenever I think about that song and animation, it reminds me of Laila Ali and her father, Muhammad Ali. They are a lot of action. They are a lot of verb. It's making me verb right now. Here is part of the lyrics:

I get my thing in action (Verb!)
To be, to sing, to feel, to live (Verb!)
That's what's happenin'

I put my heart in action (Verb!)
To run, to go, to get, to give (Verb!)
(You're what's happenin')

That's where I find satisfaction, yeah! (Yeah!)
To search, to find, to have, to hold
(Verb! To be bold)
When I use my imagination (Verb!)
I think, I plot, I plan, I dream
Turning in towards creation (Verb!)
I make, I write, I dance, I sing
When I'm feeling really active (Verb!)
I run, I ride, I swim, I fly!
Other times when life is easy
(Oh!) I rest, I sleep, I sit, I lie.......

Oh, I don't know my own power. (Verb!)

Politics and Boxing

What does Politics have in common with boxing? Debate! There is always something in the news. There is always competition. There is just one thing wrong. Politics isnot fun like boxing. I can watch Laila Ali box all day long.

Laila and the Harlem Globetrotters

What does Laila and the Harlem Globetrotters have in common? You see, it took all day to get the ball from a Harlem Globetrotter, and the rest of the team just sat down to read a newspaper or something. Well, that’s how Laila is. No one could beat her, so she took time off. Laila’s the best. She’s taking a rest.
