SIDETRIPS
WHALE WATCHING
One of the highlights of any trip to Baja is January to March, the season when the California Gray Whales head south to the San Ignacio Lagoon to calve. Guides use small boats called pangas, allowing you to to touch whales.
THE SAN IGNACIO LAGOON San Ignacio, located 1.5 hours south, is an oasis boasting 100,000 date palms lining the river, a church built out of volcanic rock, a local museum and a great plaza.....Juanita runs the oldest guesthouse, CASA LEREE, with rooms opening up into the courtyard garden, a free museum for you to browse in, books on Baja and local handicraft for sale. BAHIA ASUNCION
How about a side trip to Asuncion ? From our house, it is a coastal drive north of about 1.5 hours. Stay in elegance with Jean and Ed at Bahia Asuncion B&B, camp with excellent facilities at Campo Sirena while visiting with Shari who is an expert on everything Baja.
