La Bernardinia Baroque Ensemble is one of the more recent additions to Philadelphia's vibrant early music scene. Performing on copies of period instruments, the group specializes in chamber music from 1600-1750 presenting engaging programs featuring repertory from France, Germany, Italy, and England. The core ensemble consists of Rainer Beckmann, recorder; Donna Fournier, viola da gamba; and Marcia Kravis, harpsichord. Guest musicians are often invited to join the ensemble in their exploration of the extensive, varied repertoire of Baroque chamber music. During the 2011-2012 Concert Series the ensemble is joined by Sarah Cunningham, viola da gamba; Steven Zohn, baroque flute; Clara Rottsolk, soprano; Laura Heimes, soprano; Rebecca Harris, baroque violin; and Frank Oberschlep, recorder. The group's name refers to the title of a piece by Italian composer Girolamo Frescobaldi that La Bernardinia performed on their debut program.
