‘Home and Away’
Designed as, volumes which open in response to views, use and landscape, and, when locked down, as prismatic forms like rocks on a beach, the four huts are inflected to be longer, lower and narrower at one end and higher and wider at another forming a rising/falling wave along the front.
The smaller portion of the L-shaped single glazed metal windows has a double folding shutter with light slits, & opening upper sections to be used a windbreak. It is bolted to the base & can be wheeled once unlocked. The other portion features a horizontal bi-fold shutter with light slits which folds up to provide a permanent windbreak. Excess from the solar panel can charge a battery to enable these to be powered along with a hearing loop.
The huts are constructed from a thick structural ply lining which supports sealed composite cladding, to roof and walls yielding a cabinet-like finish to the interior and a seamless weatherproof exterior.
A solar powered fan which uses Positive Input Ventilation to prevent damp during those periods when the hut is empty, can also use underground coils in the shaded gravel area to the rear of the huts for summer cooling.
