Dirty DogQ: I've heard that if I miss school I must bring back a "dirty dog" offering. What is this? A: If you miss any part of the school day to 'do something fun,' you are
required to bring the class back something from your 'fun' day so we can
share in your 'fun' experience. If you don't, you are labeled a "dirty
dog" until you bring an offering. Typical dirty dog offerings consist
of a maps, post cards, photographs, or other items from where you went.
Outstanding offerings from the past have been viewfinder photographs,
mini statues, snow globes, and fridge magnets. If all else fails, draw
us a picture of your 'fun' time. All dirty dog offerings become
property of the classroom and are displayed throughout the year on the
dirty dog shelf. VIPQ: What privileges does it come with and how is it chosen? A: I like the idea of each student have their 'time in the spotlight.' I think it is important to celebrate the things that make each of us unique (and different). Since I do not like selecting a vip based on 'goodness,' I let the computer randomly choose students to be honored as a vip each week. The vip has some very important duties and privileges. First, they choose words that describe themselves to creat an anagram. (words are chosen form suggestions given by other students) These are posted on the vip bulletin board for all to gaze and see. The vip has the following privileges. The vip may... (1) butt to the front of any classroom line; (2) make popcorn for the class; (3) use the classroom camera to take pictures of classroom activities; (4) take charge of class meeting if the couch person is absent; and (5) help feed Sylvester, the class snake. |
