August 17, 2011 Dear Sixth Grade Families, Welcome to Middle School Writing! My name is Miss Kunde and I’m so excited to be working with 6th graders again this year! This is my fifth year at ADM... and I still love everything about it! Getting to know the students is my favorite part of teaching, so please share anything you can to help me get to know the students and families of ADM. A little bit more about me: I also coach MS volleyball at ADM and am a huge Tiger athletics supporter! I am an Iowa State graduate who cheers for the Hawkeyes (the best of both worlds) and I absolutely love spending time with my extended family. Reading and writing are still two of my favorite hobbies, and every year I look forward to growing as a reader and writer along with the students. I am excited to announce that 6th grade Writing will have a few very important changes this year. We will still work within the workshop format – and students will have time every day for independent writing. But, our focus will be on authentic/real-world genres, we will be looking at countless examples of writing from books, magazines, newspapers, collections, etc. By the end of the year, our students will start to look and feel like professional authors! As with previous years, we will have English usage/grammar and spelling practice every week. Our activities and genres will be connected with the students’ work in Reading whenever possible. In an effort to strengthen the teacher-parent-student team, all weekly assignments and classroom information are located on my website. Students will be learning a lot of responsibility skills this year, but I believe that students are more successful when there is parent-teacher communication. Please call or email if you have any questions, comments, or concerns. Again, I am very excited to have the opportunity to work with your students this year and I look forward to meeting you all. Sincerely, Ms Jen Kunde jkunde@adel.k12.ia.us (515)993-3490 http://sites.google.com/site/kundewriting/ |
