Software Development

My current list of development projects includes:

Current Projects:

AvWeather for iPhone - Rewriting the app I originally created for the BlackBerry to the iPhone/iPod Touch. Won't be selling this one, but if I can get it on my iPod or future iPhone I'll use it a lot.

Secret Projects - I've got a few ideas for iPhone apps. Will say more when they are available in the Apple AppStore!!!

Projects that are on hold, pending catching my interest again:

AvWeather for BlackBerry - An app for the BlackBerry to retrieve METAR and TAF data useful for pilots. Very very handy but I'm afraid to sell it due to the liabilities that go along with such an application. Pilot gets wrong weather details, crashes and gets hurt badly -> Kevin gets sued. Not good and I'm too cheap to get legal advice on this.

BrickRunner - a remake of Lode Runner for BlackBerry. I have this 80% complete, just needs some refining, creation of 150 game levels, and some testing on the miriad of BlackBerry devices. A friggin neat game, my kids love it. But, after upgrading to Windows 7 on on my PC, my BlackBerry development environment is all screwed up so I'm jumping ship to the iPhone platform because BlackBerry's support for developers is VERY LACKING. May convert this app to iPhone in the future, not sure yet...

FirePower - a remake of the game FirePower. Features graphics ripped from the original and on-line play.
[update 2010-02-11 implemented a scrolling FirePower map on my BlackBerry 8330. Gotta admit, seeing FirePower graphics on the device is really cool, but unfortunately I think it is way to slow for a full-blown FirePower type game even after doing gobs of research to optimize the code.]

FlySource - I'm working on version 2.0 of my popular fly tying software. See www.flysource.net

Pylon Race System - The future of pylon racing is heading towards a judge-less race course. Each aircraft will have a transmitter that sends a signal to a computerized judging system and realtime 3D position will be determined. I've been toying with some 3D interface ideas using Java 3D API. Very neat stuff, but coding gets complicated quickly especially when you start thinking about how to calculate a pylon cut.

Projects that are done or won't be finished in this lifetime:

HamShack - An application for ham radio operators. The neat part includes controlling the radio via computer.
[Update 2010-02-11 - I won't be putting more time into this. Got way too many other projects I'd rather do. And besides, Ham Radio Deluxe works great to control my radio via computer and keep track of my contacts.]

DayTrader - A stock trading game for the Palm Pilot.
SportPay - A referee payroll system for referee associations.
Dictation Player - a useful Windows program I hacked  together to help transcribe some audio tape to text.
