Where is the Choice

Our government gives us the
Right to Vote,
but then doesn’t give us a choice.
They force upon us
two rich people
spewing the propaganda
of two rich parties.
Where is the Everyman or woman
who has the strength and independence
to have their own beliefs,
and the courage
to speak honestly about them?
I want the choice of a Real person,
who acknowledges the mistakes of the past,
and doesn’t try to convince me
that he or she is, and always has been,
the model of perfection.
I want the choice of a person
who doesn’t put themselves
on the auction block
for sale to the highest bidder.
Someone who believes in the sanctity of life,
but also recognizes my freedom to choose,
and doesn’t try to play God
by condemning others to death.
I want a candidate
who respects the diversity of the human race,
and won’t sit in judgment of me for my personal choices -
after all,
don’t they have more important things
to worry about in Washington
than who I choose to marry?
Where are the people who
truly love the earth,
and want it to remain alive
and beautiful
long after they are gone?
I look for someone
who rewards companies and individuals
that are kind to the environment
and penalizes those that aren’t.
But most of all,
I want the choice of a peacemaker,
a diplomat,
someone who can communicate
with other world leaders,
and not only earn,
but also deserve,
their respect.
