Senses and Seasons

Have you ever taken the time
to fully experience
the different seasons
with all your senses?
Do you sit very still
and actually feel the changes occurring?
Have you closed your eyes
and listened to the sound of spring?
Or tried to breath in
the intense heat and humidity of the Deep South?
Did you ever crush a leaf in your hand
just to remind yourself
of the brittle fragility of fall,
or stick out your tongue
to see what a brisk winter day
tastes like?
And do you acknowledge
your inner sixth sense
that is whispering,
“Just as the earth cleanses and renews itself
with the changes of the seasons,
so must you cleanse and renew yourself
with the changes of life.”
Take the time
right now,
tomorrow,
and with every changing season
to feel how the wind,
breath of the earth,
changes throughout the year.
Let it tickle your nose and ears.
Open your eyes and smile.
Then stick out your tongue and laugh.
