Kristina Shakeshaft - Soprano





























Kristina started singing from a very earlier age in the local church choir and in 1992 became one of the first girl choristers at Wakefield Cathedral (at that point only the second cathedral girls' choir in the country). She has sung in a variety of choirs since including St Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral Choir, Glasgow, the Glasgow Chamber Choir and the mixed choir (College Choir) of Jesus College Cambridge.  She currently sings regularly with the Lichfield Cathedral Chamber Choir and each summer with Musica Deo Sacra at Tewkesbury Abbey. She also sings on an ad hoc basis for a number of other Midlands based groups.  

She has sung the soprano solos in Vivalidi's Gloria for the Glasgow University Choral Society and again for the Festival Eucharist at the Oundle International Festival.  She has also performed the soprano solos in Finzi's In Terra Pax and Britten's Ceremony of Carols for the Lichfield Cathedral Special Choir.  For Lichfield Cathedral Chamber Choir, she has sung the soprano solos in Schubert's Mass in G and in the soprano duet sections of Handel's Dixit DominusKristina has also appeared in the 2003, 2006 and 2009 cycles of the Lichfield Mysteries where she has played a number of roles including one of the three Mary's in the 2003 and 2009 Resurrection plays and the Mistress of the Ruff in the 2009 Ascension play. For Musica Deo Sacra she has also sung the soprano solos in Schubert's Mass Number 3 in B flat and Beethoven's Mass in C She has also taken part in the Lichfield Cathedral lunch time summer recital series, accompanied by Cathy Lamb,  singing a varied selection of sacred and secular songs and arias. Kristina has even turned her hand to Gilbert and Sullivan singing the roles of  Pitti-Sing in The Mikado and Edith in The Pirates of Penzance for come and sing fund-raising events at Lichfield Cathedral.

Kristina has recorded a number of CDs with some of the choirs she has sung with but she appears as a soloist (under her maiden name, Roe) in the Lichfield Cathedral and Chamber Choir's recording of the Jongen Mass, entitled Belgium Choral Works.

As a singer Kristina has performed in a number of prestigious venues including Lichfield Cathedral, The Birmingham Symphony Hall, Westminster Abbey, Tewkesbury Abbey, Limburg Cathedral, and San Carlo al Carso (Milan). She has also appeared on a number of broadcasts over the years on BBC Radio Two, Three and Four.

Despite also having a demanding career as the head of RE at a local school, Kristina is often available to provide music at weddings, funerals and other events.
