Krey Pattern

There is a hard copy of the pattern in the clubhouse.  Enter at 1000 AGL, downwind at 800.  Left hand patterns are the norm, but gliders stay to the north of the field and the towplanes to the south. A copy is posted below.

Krey Procedures - Quick Start Summary

For complete procedures with diagrams, see Glider Pilots guide attached below.  We launch towards the east about 80% of the time.  If the wind changes, or is forecast to change, the tow pilot will go to the east end, and launch to the west.  If you get stranded at the other end, keep clear of the runway, and your south wing down. Cross wind runways are used for glider landing only.  Tow pilots are not allowed to operate off the crosswind runways, taxi downwind or do wheel landings, so we usually will cease towing in direct sustained cross winds of 15-18 kts.

Staging areas are marked with cones at both ends.  There is no paid ground crew, so move your glider to the cone before launch, slightly to the north of the centerline.  Hand the tow ticket to whoever will run your wing, the tow pilot will park and shut down if you don't.  Tow plane will stage to the side to watch for traffic until he sees your wing up signal.  Launch will not start until the tow pilot sees the glider rudder signal.

Tows tend to be low and short at Krey, we will go to safe position and altitude upwind and near the Field, and then head to the junkyard, fly factory or "S" turn if we have not found lift. Steering is not needed in most cases.  We will go where you tell us, and we always fly a pattern before first tow and know what the lift conditions are before the glider does.  It is best to tell the tow pilot if you plan on steering or other manuevers.
