A couple of things came up at the meeting that have stuck in my head, one was a brief announcement about another krewe on the suspension list, the door logistics for PFAM and Dr. Bob's bubble.
There is another krewe that, depending on how you look at it, is under suspension or proposed to be suspended out of the parade for this year. The sad part is a majority of their krewe felt bullied and unheard by their captain. So much so that they brought their concerns to the head of KDV. I guess this has happened before to a couple other krewes. What struck me is how sad that the entire group might not be able to parade this year because of their inability to communicate and get results from their captain. I hope, from the bottom of my heart, that I am in a krewe that if krewe members have a problem - we have a way to listen and respect their suggestions. I know that meetings in the past have been difficult but so far this year the meetings have been good and productive. We have a council that meets before the meeting. Hopefully we are presenting the things that just need presenting and discussing the fun stuff like themes, costumes, float design, etc. In case you feel your suggestions aren't being heard, I made a suggestion box under the link for General Bidness.
The Door Logistics conversation from the meeting has haunted me. The question came up about people who have forgotten their tickets but show up with a krewe member. It was suggested that if the krewe member can vouch for them, they should be let in. I said what's to stop the ticket guest from giving their ticket to a friend and "sliding' in with the krewe member. I must have such a suspicious nature lurking inside. I come from the land of 15 years in events production and we set rules and HAD to follow them (or be fired). My nature is a rule follower. I didn't like how I felt after expressing that sentiment at the meeting. Ryan and I had a great discussion at the last game about the people who butter their bread on the butter side up and the ones that butter their bread on the butter side down. Rule followers and rule relaxers. He sees that for some they are comfortable when their are specific guidelines and others are more comfortable with a "let it flow" nature. We have both in our krewe and we both recognize that for a party this size - you need some structure but not too much. FYI - The decision that resulted at the meeting was not to put the door person in the awkward moment of being in charge of this decision, but if there is a door problem, they can wait outside and Tim or Robbie will be found to address the problem. That worked for me.
Dr. Bob's Bubble - I love our 'concept' and I want it on record that Dr. Bob would be a perfect "thing" to turn into satire. It fits, it's brilliant, and his stuff is so overdone, cheezy, crappy that we can really say something here. If we can spoof and spin on Palin, Jindal, Nagin, why should Dr. Bob be reserved from ridicule?
