Sorry to miss this one, although I hope some of you manage to meet. I will see you in September.

A small group of us met and settled in by the high top stools near the front bar. I had the pleasure of meeting several new faces and it was particularly nice to meet the recent graduates. Thanks for coming out and thanks for bringing friends and significant others--It can be refreshing to meet people from different backgrounds.
6/12
We had a great time at Clarendon grill. It did not rain, thankfully and a group of about 15 of us enjoyed an afternoon on the back deck. We were joined by Andre and Varian, non-maritime friends who brought along 10 other friends and colleagues with interesting backgrounds. We were also joined by members from c/o 2001 and c/o 2008, which is the most recent graduate we've hosted in the last year. We look forward to next time at RFD's in DC. Lastly, we've started reaching out to our colleagues at the State Maritime Academies and we hope to see more new faces in the months to come.

Sorry to have missed it. I headed home to South Florida for the weekend and managed to connect with the South Florida Chapter's monthly happy hour's at South Port Raw Bar:
One alumn has recommended a new locale in Falls Church. Maybe this fall we can check out a new brewery. 4/10
We decided to post-pone happy hour this month due to spring breaks, easter and passover holidays. See you next month.
3/13
A number of us gathered at RFD's for a few beers. Specifically, a new alum came out to see us with interesting stories about his experiences in various areas of the maritime industry. It was cool to learn about the different career experiences this individual possesed and how he was able to leverage successes in each to make transitions into new ones. See you soon.
2/13 Sorry to have missed it. I did get a call from one alumn. Hopefully, John was able to connect with others there. 1/9 Thank each for coming out. We got the happy hours off to a strong start in 2009 with about 12 people from different backgrounds and age groups. Several ideas were revisited and hopefully we can try them out in the near future: 1) We'll experiment with a Thursday night Happy Hour at a new venue - Tortilla Coast. Good idea, thank you Chris. 2) Start an e-mail list for anyone interested in hearing more about these events. Good idea, thank you Curtis. 3) Draft a letter of invitation and reach out social event coordinators at other local groups telling them about our happy hours: a) professional associations, b) graduate schools and c) government agencies 12/12 We had about ten people stop by including several members from c/o '97, 98, '00, 01 and 03. Pictures are up on the pictures link on the left-hand side of this page or you can click here. As a heads up, several people suggested changing the happy hour to Thursday evening for next year and I'm in the process of getting that changed. I hope to see you at the next one. Happy Holidays. |
