  • 6th Korea Public Speaking Championship Results
    Congratulations to the following students for their excellent efforts at the 6th Korea Public Speaking Championship!  The students competed in a competitive field with representatives from seven schools.  A special congratulations to Yongsan International School of Seoul for winning the Sweepstakes as best all-around school.  Also, congratulations and thanks to Bugil Academy for successfully hosting the event!

    The following six students qualified for World Individuals in Brisbane, Australia:
         Qualifier and Korea Public Speaking Champion: Min Chul Cho (Daewon)
         Qualifier: Hong Soon Kim (KMLA)
         Qualifier: Ji Hyun Shin (GAFL)
         Qualifier: Sang Hyun Park (YISS)
         Qualifier: Yeon Su Suh (KMLA)

    Please visit this website for details on the first KFL Debate Tournament for middle school students.  This event is initiated and organized by KFL student liaisons and will be held at Hanyang University from November 12th to 13th.

    Also, note that the deadline for registration for the 6th KPSC/WIQ for high school students is November 4th.  See this post for details.

  • WSDC 2012 Team Korea Announcement
    KFL Community, 

    Thank you one and all for participating in the condensed WSDC 2012 selection process. The level of high school debate in Korea continues to improve and the fine candidates we saw throughout this process really proves that. 

    Before we list the team members, we want to thank the liaisons, many of which came all the way out to Ewha to to observe the final debate in person. Ten schools voted for the current team: NLCS, KMLA, HAFS, Hana, Daewon, GAFL, CSIA, Bugil, SIS, and Hanyoung. 

    So Korea, here is your 2012 team going to South Africa in January: (in reverse alphabetical order)

  • 6th Korea Public Speaking Championship / World Individuals Qualifier
    The KFL would like to invite schools to participate in a qualification event for the World Individuals Debating and Public Speaking Championships to be held in Brisbane, Australia from March 29th to April 4th, 2012. (www.widpsc.com) The qualification event will be held on Saturday, November 26th at Bugil Academy.  The top five students at the qualifier will be invited to represent Korea.

    Note that we have changed the name of the qualifier to the Korea Public Speaking Championship, but the rules will be the same as in previous years.

    Read the attached documents and contact us if you need the registration form.  Registration is by school and is due by November 4th, so if you are a student who would like to participate, please contact your school's faculty liaison.  Contact information is included in the attached files.  Use this same contact information for inquiries regarding applying to coach the team.  Coach applications are also due by November 4th.

  • WSDC 2012 Selection Process
    It's that time of year again, when the KFL picks the top high school debaters in Korea to compete on behalf of Korea at the Olympics of high school debate, World Schools Debating Championship. The KFL is pleased to announce the selection process for the 2012 WSDC Team Korea and for the two coaches. Please see the relevant material on our website: 

    COACHING APPLICATIONS DUE BY August 12.
    DEBATER APPLICATIONS DUE BY August 22. 

    1) WSDC 2012 Selection Timeline: This document lists the timeline for the selection of the national team as well as both coaches.

    2) WSDC Training Pool Application: This Excel file is the form that must be filled out by each school's liaison. NO student submitted applications will be accepted. There is an in-school selection process and the KFL weighs in after that.

    3) WSDC Coach Application: This Word document should be completed by anyone wishing to coach the WSDC team.  Both coaches will be elected this year.  The candidate with the highest number of votes will be elected to a two-year term, the candidate with the second-highest number of votes will be elected to a one-year term.
