The band continued rehearsing every Monday evening aiming for ever higher standards. Unfortunately tensions appeared, some of which are probably typical in any band - musical direction, logistics, low paid gigs, and ...... personality clashes !. These problems proved to be the demise of Kolton leaving Tashan and Trevor to contemplate a new venture or direction.
However ...... there were gigs to honour so the band brought in a stand-in drummer and friend Eddy who had previously played bass with the band during a guest appearance at his daughter's wedding. All of a sudden the sound and feel were "right". Tashan, Trevor and Eddy decided that the Kolton name would continue and look for a drummer and lead guitarist who were like minded i.e. wanted to enjoy playing in a band, be easy going and amicable, and play popular music from many genres in the Kolton style. It would be a challenge but the band had time on their side.
In 2008 the band advertised for a new guitarist and drummer. These positions were soon filled by the two "A's" - Andy (guitar) and Andie (drums). Rehearsals got under way and the band revised its set list with input from its new members. The new line up was eager to start gigging and the first opportunity came at the Boot & Shoe in Ackworth. Unfortunately this line up was short lived as Andie decided to leave in June 2008 as he felt the band did not have the right "vibe".
The band continued refining the set during 2008 and played a number of gigs with stand-in drummers whilst trying to find that elusive fifth person to complete the line up. Auditions proved to be sometimes hilarious / difficult / interesting times but early in 2009 the band met Paul and immediately felt at home with him on the drums. It wasn't long before the decision was made to ask Paul to join and he became Kolton's new drummer in March of that year.
With a stable line up again the band resumed gigging with one particular highlight being the New Years Eve gig at O'Neills. The band rehearsed a very special version of Auld Lang Syne for that gig and it went down a storm. The gig also lead to a string of dates at O'Neills throughout 2010 and it became almost like a "home" venue. |
