History - part 1

Kolton was formed in December 2005 as a means for original member Tashan to branch out on his own and try setting up a band which would allow him to sing songs which would not normally be associated with bands doing function work.

Bringing Kolton together not only required musicians with a certain skill level, but also a mind set that would ensure that the songs being played were not just something from the standard cover band grab-bag and that each arrangement, whilst still recognisable to fans of the original, had a fresh outlook that would label it as something "Koltonish".

The first line-up included vocals, drums, keyboard and guitar but early attempts at trying to get musicians who were not only of a particular calibre, but also of like minds and reliable did not work out. The lack of good bass guitarists generally meant that the keyboard player would have to take over that role. Various issues with tardiness (quite common with musicians when it comes to rehearsals) and levels of incompetence meant that various members fell rapidly by the wayside and it seemed that there wouldn't be enough members around long enough to ensure that the band got out of the rehearsal room and onto the stage.

The inclusion of Trevor, soon followed by Liam (who thought he was only coming along to a couple of sessions to show the current guitarist how to play the songs correctly) ensured that the melodic section of Kolton could now live up to Tashan's expectations, but the rhythm section was only being provided by a backing singer doing a bit of percussion.
Snatching Katy (or T.K. as she preferred to be known) from the rest of the world was the coup de grace needed to give the band a fighting chance and things started clicking together.
