Another success at Knutsford Tennis Club

Saturday, 14th November 2009 was another landmark in the fast developing success story of Knutsford Tennis Club when it proudly welcomed the Cheshire LTA (Lawn Tennis Association) President, Barbara Bloor, to the Club to present their ‘Clubmark’ award. Clubmark is awarded by the LTA to clubs who have reached benchmark standards, and recognises the hard work put in by the club during the year. Achieving Tennis Clubmark means the LTA endorses and supports a club’s tennis programme, policies and procedures, action and development planning, and club management.

Chairman Sally Norman said “It was an honour for us to have Barbara visit the Club and present us with our award.  We have certainly come a long way in the last year since the arrival of our Head Coach, Mark Airey – achieving both Clubmark status and being awarded the ‘LTA Cheshire Club for 2009’ was beyond our expectations during the first full year of our ambitious 5 Year Development Programme.  I am very excited as to what we may be able to achieve in Year 2 – we have plans to improve our facilities so that we can encourage more people from the community to come and play tennis in a safe and fun environment”.

The afternoon was supported by both senior and junior members, but unfortunately the weather played a negative part in the proceedings.  What should have been a Senior/Junior Tournament was reinvented into an indoor soft tennis competition with some quick creative thinking by the coach.  This kept the many juniors entertained whilst, the senior members concentrated on the many delicious home made cakes on offer!

The children at the Club on Mereheath Lane have been playing lots of tennis this summer, in sunshine and showers!

There has been fun tennis at members’ clubnight on Fridays, coaching programmes for all ages and abilities and more chances to play competitions than ever before.

One competition that is a regular date in July is the Annual Singles Club Championships.  There were boys and girls events in four different age categories up to 18 yrs old.  The knock out rounds were played in the evenings Monday to Thursday.
